Heritage Pediatrics has a VERY helpful page on our website, which may come in handy for many of our patients. This page helps you handle common concerns when you're unsure whether it warrants a visit to our office, or when our office is closed, and you're trying to decide what is urgent versus what can safely be managed at home. It was actually written by your pediatricians, here at Heritage Pediatrics.

It's bittersweet to announce that Rachel, Dr. Fitch's nurse, will be leaving Heritage Pediatrics to spend more time with her infant son. We are sad to lose her, but are certainly happy that she has this opportunity. Her last day will be February 20.

Due to inclement weather, Heritage Pediatrics will be closed tomorrow, January 26. We will, however, see urgent sick visits by appointment from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.

We will have a doctor on call for any emergent questions/concerns that cannot wait until Tuesday.

Dear Heritage Pediatrics Community,

So many of our patients and their families have been directly impacted by the floods near Hunt, Texas. We grieve with all of you. The tension is near as we are grateful for the survivors and ache for the missing.
For children and families in need of counseling services, we have resources to offer. For any children who may have had prolonged exposure to the floodwaters, please reach out to your pediatrician here so we can guide you on medical considerations as well as check on your child's tetanus status. We are here when you need us.

🚨 Measles Outbreak Update – April 2025 🚨
Texas DSHS has expanded the outbreak zone to include:
Cochran, Dallam, Dawson, Gaines, Garza, Lamar, Lubbock, Lynn, Terry & Yoakum Counties.

🏥 If you live in or are visiting these areas, check your child’s MMR vaccine status:

👶 6–11 months → Get an early MMR dose now
👧 1–4 years → May need a second dose
🧒 1+ years with no record → Need two doses, 28 days apart
🧑‍🦱 Adults → May need a second dose, or two if unvaccinated

💉 The MMR vaccine is safe and effective — and it’s the best way to protect your family.

The number one question we have been receiving about the measles exposure in San Antonio is this: "Should my infant get the MMR vaccine early since they have not yet turned one years old"? It is not time to vaccinate children under 1 years old at this point. We would only recommend that if the risk of local transmission increases significantly. Rest assured, we will be notifying parents with every avenue we have if we do move to this recommendation.

"We have received a high volume of calls related to the measles outbreak in Gaines County located in West Texas. At this time, no special precautions are recommended for families living in Bexar county or surrounding counties. The only special recommendations are for residents of Gaines County.
We are following this outbreak closely and we will keep you updated through social media and our website as needed. Just as a reminder, the best way to protect yourself from the measles is to receive the recommended measles vaccine - the first dose is given at 12 months of age and the 2nd dose is given at 4 years of age.
