Dr. John Perry performs a successful procedure with the for a 61 y.o. patient with a Type 3 occlusion (right IJ, left & right brachiocephalics, and SVC occlusions) replacing a transhepatic catheter. The result enabled the patient to dialyze using a central venous catheter with an improved quality of life. Video below shows several portions of the procedure.

Paul Citrin, MD, FACS recently performed his first procedure at Advent Heath in Zephyrhills, Florida. Patient was a 87 y/o male with a right-sided femoral tunnelled dialysis catheter on hemodialysis with a Type 3 occlusion involving the SVC. Dr. Citrin successfully obtained central venous access using the Surfacer® System to perform the procedure enabling removal of the femoral catheter. Surfacer procedure time was only 16 minutes with total procedure taking less than an 1 hour.

Investigators at the Dialysis Access Institute (DAI) in Orangeburg, SC who participated in the pivotal IDE study for the recently successfully performed the procedure using the device in a patient who was dialyzing with a femoral catheter.

The Surfacer System facilitates right-sided internal jugular vein access for patients on hemodialysis, enabling conversion from the use of a femoral catheters for hemodialysis. Eliminating a femoral catheter reduces the risk of infection, DVTs and the potential for jeopardizing a successful renal transplantation, while also improving a patient's quality of life.

Interesting procedure recently performed by Prof. Dr. Bruno Schwagten from the Electrophysiology Unit, ZNA Middelheim in Antwerp. A patient with an occluded SVC needed a failing pacemaker (PPM) lead to the right ventricle (RV) revised and replace the PPM generator. Patient had a previously abandoned RV lead and a left-sided permacath for chemotherapy use. Since there was no viable access to replace the lead, the Surfacer System was successfully utilized to gain central venous access. Subsequently, Dr. Schwagten proceeded to tunnel the new lead under the clavicle to the right ventricle. See video of the procedure below with description of each step.
