Bariatric Counseling Center

Bariatric Counseling Center Behavioral healthcare for people struggling with over-eating, emotional eating, and weight-loss.

We are an Intensive Outpatient Program geared towards assisting people whose prior weight loss attempts have not been successful because their dieting habits were unsustainable. We focus on creating that change through insight and awareness into one’s relationship with food and developing realistic habits that you can sustain throughout your life. In our program, you will establish adaptive coping mechanisms to reduce the use of food to cope with stress and emotions and eliminate binge eating and other problematic behaviors. We come together as a community to prepare and eat a meal at each session, learning new cooking and eating habits that support your success. You will do all of this in a community who understands the struggle.

Movement can feel overwhelming. Especially if you’ve tried before and it didn’t stick.

On Saturday, March 21, the Bariatric Counseling Center of San Antonio is hosting Movement Without Overwhelm, a free, in-person workshop designed for individuals living with obesity who want a different starting point.

Not a bootcamp.
Not a lecture about what you “should” be doing.
A space to learn how to begin in a way that feels safe, realistic, and sustainable.

Led by Arlyn Thobaben, PT, DPT, OCS and Sara Hamilton, PsyD, this session includes:
• Practical strategies for getting started safely
• A supportive, judgment-free environment
• A tour of our one-of-a-kind facility

🗓 Saturday, March 21
⏰ 1:30 to 3:00 PM
📍 9618 Huebner Rd., Ste 320, San Antonio, TX 78240
🎟 Free to attend. Space is limited.

Infused water, made simple.

Bosc pear, black plum, and Cara Cara orange.

Subtle sweetness. No added sugar. Just flavor that makes sipping easier.

Hydration supports metabolism, digestion, energy, and focus. And when water tastes good, it’s a whole lot easier to drink enough of it.

If plain water feels boring or hard to stick with, infused water is a gentle, realistic place to start.

One bottle. One habit. One step forward.

Eating with ADHD can feel harder than it “should.” That’s not a discipline problem; it’s a systems problem. ADHD affects executive functioning, the cognitive skills that help with planning, remembering, and following through. When those systems are overloaded, things like eating regularly, cooking, and making food choices can feel exhausting.

Changing this isn’t about willpower; it’s about support.

Helpful places to start:
• Add more variety to your meals, even in small ways
• Eat meals consistently throughout the day
• Include fresh foods when possible
• Build simple cooking skills with support from community resources like CHEF - Culinary Health Education for Families and the San Antonio Food Bank

You don’t need a stricter plan.
You need systems that work with your brain.

ADHD can quietly shape how, when, and why we eat.

For many adults, struggles with grazing, skipped meals, cravings, or overeating are not about discipline or willpower. They are rooted in executive functioning, the brain skills that support planning, impulse control, and noticing hunger and fullness. Dr. Sara Hamilton, PsyD, Clinical Director at the Bariatric Counseling Center, breaks down this connection in her recent article published in San Antonio Medicine, the official publication of the Bexar County Medical Society.

Understanding the why behind eating patterns changes the conversation. It shifts us away from shame and toward sustainable support.
