Counseling Connections of San Antonio is running a few groups:

1. A women's group led by Marissa Garcia, LPC

2. A teen girls group led by Theresa Spencer, LPC

3. A transgender group led by Elizabeth Owens, LPC Intern, Doctoral Student

4. A potential substance abuse (initially alcohol-related) group is TBD!

Counseling Connections of San Antonio will begin TWO unique Transgender and Gender Sensitive Groups for Adolescents (teens) and Adults led by one of our doctoral students and LPC Interns Elizabeth Owens. If you or anyone you know might be interested, please have them contact our office to schedule an intake @ 210-446-8255. The start date is to be determined, but estimated to start on or after March 19, 2016.

TRICARE Mental Health Counselor Provider Requirements Effective Midnight January 1, 2017

Effective January 1, 2017, one of the following options must be met in order for a provider to practice as a TCMHC.

Option One:
Pass the NCMHCE; and
Possess a master's or higher-level degree from a CACREP-accredited program for Mental Health Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling; and
Complete a minimum of two years post master's degree supervised mental health counseling, including at least 3,000 hours of supervised clinical practice and 100 hours of face-to-face supervision. The supervisor must meet the specific requirements in TRICARE Policy Manual (TPM), ch. 11, sec. 3.11.

Option Two:
Note: Under option two, all requirements must be completed by December 31, 2016. Providers completing any of the listed requirements after December 31, 2016, cannot qualify as a TCMHC under this second option.
Pass the NCMHCE; and
Possess a master's or higher-level degree from an educational institution accredited by a Regional Accrediting Organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation; and
Complete a minimum of two years post-Master's degree supervised mental health counseling, including at least 3,000 hours of supervised clinical practice and 100 hours of face-to-face supervision. The supervisor must meet the specific requirements in TPM, ch. 11, sec. 3.11.

Option Three:
Note: Under option three, all requirements must be completed by December 31, 2016. Providers completing any of the listed requirements after December 31, 2016 cannot qualify as a TCMHC under this third option.
Pass the NCE; and

at the doctoral level in the clinical mental health specialty area or a comparable amount of scholarship in this area.

3,000 hours of Post-Masters Supervised Experience

Possess a Master’s or higher level degree from a mental health counseling program of education and training accredited for Mental Health Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP)

Passed the National Counselor Examination (NCE)

OR

Possess a Master’s or higher level degree from a mental health counseling program of education and training accredited for Mental Health Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) or from an educational institution accredited by a Regional Accrediting Organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation

Passed the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE)
