How to lift your spirits:
Listen to uplifting or calming music.
Exercise or take a walk.

Ways to take care of yourself:
Keep a gratitude journal and write in it three to five times/week.
Exercise often - even a short walk helps.
Incorporate good “sleep hygiene” - like reading a book at night or drinking a cup of calming tea.
Meditate or at least take some deep breaths often during the day.
Eat healthy foods. Good nourishment makes us feel we are taking care of ourselves.

Have a safe Halloween. Here are some safety tips from SafeKids.Org:
1. Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross.
2. Put electronic devices down, keep heads up and walk, don’t run across the street.
3. Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them.
4. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors.
5. Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision.
6. Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.
7. Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.

Not only does exercise give you energy, it can improve your sleep, your outlook on life and health. I know when I exercise it helps-not only do I feel better, but I also appreciate that this is a way I take care of myself and practice self-compassion. I make sure my kids see me doing it-one day they will have to juggle work and life and health-and I want to model how to get it all done!!
