📣 We’re thrilled to announce that Dr. Stephanie Schmiedecke Barbieri has been appointed Dean of the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO), effective November 1! 👏

Dr. Schmiedecke Barbieri brings over 23 years of clinical and leadership experience, including a decade with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and has been instrumental in expanding RSO’s residency programs and advancing low vision care.

“It is a profound honor to serve as Dean for RSO, uniting innovation and excellence with the legacy of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word,” she shared.

UIW Cardinal Chorale & Cardinal Singers Concert

The UIW Cardinal Chorale with the Cardinal Singers will be having a concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16 in the Diane Bennack Concert Hall. Come spend an hour with these talented students, and experience their beautiful and uplifting music. The concert is free and open to the public. 🏅Interprofessional Olympics 2025!

On Saturday, November 1st, UIW's School of Medicine hosted the first-ever Interprofessional Olympics! 🎯

Students from RSO, FSOP, SOM, PT, OT, Nursing, and Athletic Training competed in soccer, volleyball, relay races,
water balloon dodgeball, and Super Smash Bros! 🎮💦

Shoutout to Chelsea Abad, Ciana Ray, Anisha Rizvi, and Rhidika Zakaria (Class of 2029) for representing RSO in the Super Smash Bros tournament! 👏🏼

And of course, a special mention to Caitlin Siekawitch (Class of 2027), who ran the water balloon dodgeball for those who braved the cold - what a fun day of teamwork, laughter, and interprofessional spirit! ❤️💪🏼

⭐UIWRSO Student Spotlight⭐

Thinh Truong completed his undergraduate studies at the University of the Incarnate Word. He is in his 3rd year of the Doctor of Optometry Program at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry.

Thinh shows genuine professionalism and an exemplary attitude. He is a true delight to have in class.

He is always eager to learn and consistently demonstrating a calm, positive demeanor that is both encouraging and deserving of recognition.
