We do not perform ultrasounds in our office. Instead, we refer patients for an ultrasound around 20 weeks, which is the anatomy scan to evaluate the baby’s heart, lungs, and other developing organs.

While we have a preferred ultrasound provider that doesn’t accept insurance, we can refer you to facilities like Touchstone if you want to use your insurance. If you prefer a different provider, we can also refer you there, as long as they offer medical imaging services.

Preeclampsia is a condition that can occur late in pregnancy, characterized by symptoms such as high blood pressure, swelling, and protein in the urine. When these symptoms appear, we closely monitor the mother and perform additional blood tests if needed. If preeclampsia is suspected, the mother is often transferred to the hospital for delivery to prevent serious complications.

Care in birth centers is based on the holistic care model, which promotes natural methods of care centered on the patient’s needs and personal preferences.

There are minimal medical interventions offered at the birth center. Instead, natural methods of care are offered that help ease discomfort and offer the support needed for labor and birth. These options often include hydrotherapy and water birth.

Our Story

The Birth Center Stone Oak was conceived by Joi Brock who realized the need for out-of-hospital birth center options in the area after moving to San Antonio in 2000. Joi’s practice in midwifery began in 2006 and the Birth Center opened its doors in 2012 with the belief that birth is a normal process of a woman’s body – it is a joyous, celebrated occasion. A woman who feels supported, informed and respected will embrace her journey through birth with empowerment, excitement and satisfaction.

Birth Center Stone Oak of San Antonio, TX, is proud to assist mothers. We provide a range of helpful birth services, including prenatal care and education, labor and delivery assistance, and postpartum care. Reach out to us today to learn more.
