Thank you to the Los Angeles Times and journalist Melissa Gomez for allowing us to shed light on yet another secondary effect of the overturning of roe vs wade.

Women across the country are seeking out sterilization after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, which had guaranteed abortion access.

Recently, especially given the current political climate regarding women’s rights, I’ve seen a definite uptick in young childfree women coming in to discuss/request permanent sterilization. Many have been denied by various other providers, because they were told they were too young, might change their mind, might have possible regret, might upset their partners, etc etc. Sterilization via tubal ligation or removal of tubes should always be discussed as an option, if a patient chooses and desires and has been adequately informed of and understands all the risks vs benefits vs alternatives vs expectations. Obviously, each case is uniquely and beautifully different and requires careful and respectful consultation. BUT your desire to remain childfree should ultimately be YOUR choice if we truly want to talk about respecting autonomy. If this is something you’ve been considering and would like to discuss further, let’s talk more about it.

Dating can be tough these days and no one is immune to potential partner violence. The “No Test” is a great way to help identify a potential abuser. When someone becomes angry with your boundaries, you’ve found the line where their respect for you ends.

Women often find out too late that their partner is violent — and they blame themselves — but one domestic violence counsellor has identified an early warning sign of possible abusive behaviour.
