Methodist Hospital Metropolitan Breast Cancer Program The Breast Center provides health care services for women with breast cancer, offering free-of-charg

The Methodist Hospital Metropolitan Breast Cancer Program has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers since September 2012. The Breast Center opened in August 2011 and has been committed to breast health care to improve the quality of care for patients experiencing various types of breast related conditions. All ages of both male and female patients are supported with a multidisciplinary team approach ensuring the provision of continuity of care for patients with all diseases of the breast. The Metropolitan Methodist Breast Center is staffed with an RN Program Director/Nurse Navigator certified in Imaging and Cancer Care by the National Consortium of Breast Centers. Also on staff are an administrative assistant, a Medical Director and a volunteer who is a breast cancer survivor. In October of 2013, the Metropolitan Methodist Breast Center hosted approximately 50 breast cancer survivors at a luncheon in their honor. In 2013, 197 patients were supported through the Metropolitan Methodist Breast Center. 92 of these patients were diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of the patients who do not have a breast cancer diagnosis, were assisted with educational information and community resources to further follow their breast disease.

Our Metro's Pink Warriors support group enjoyed a visit today from Bismack Biyomba, the #18 player from the San Antonio Spurs. The Methodist Healthcare System has signed a five-year sponsorship with the Spurs, and our breast cancer support group was a part of the celebration of this partnership.

Bismack helped create pink bracelets, cut out Hearts of Love pillows, and signed a couple of cards to share with our breast cancer patients.

Our beautiful support group ladies will be featured during the Spurs "Box Out Cancer Night" on Saturday, January 17, presented by Methodist Healthcare System.

We thank Bismack and the San Antonio Spurs for sharing their time with us today!

Two of our Metro's Pink Warriors from the Methodist Hospital Metropolitan Breast Cancer Program, Rose Martinez and Ellie Torrento, shared their amazing, inspirational stories earlier today at the Mount Gilead Silver Seniors luncheon. Their talks focused on the strength, preserverence, and most importantly, their faith throughout their breast cancer journeys. Our sincerest thanks goes out to Jackie Rodriguez for inviting several ladies from our support group. Jackie Gaskin Walker, a long-time supporter for all of our ladies, did a wonderful job in helping coordinate the event, and the food and cakes were so yummy. What a great celebration for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!!

We're a bit late on sharing this video that was taken during our Metro's Pink Warriors support group (Methodist Hospital Metropolitan Breast Cancer Program) meeting with a couple of players he San Antonio FC (soccer team). We were all so amazed by their sincere interest in listening to our breast cancer stories.
