Join Sandra Pe from Decriminalize Nature on March 4 at All That Lies In Gray for an educational presentation on plant medicines, their place in history, and how they have been used in communities of healing.

Decriminalize Nature is Decriminalize Nature (DN) is a decentralized, transparent, open-source movement to restore our connection to ourselves, community, and nature/Mother Earth, starting with the decriminalization of the consciousness-healing and consciousness liberating entheogenic plant and fungi allies. Our mission is to improve human health and well-being by decriminalizing and expanding access to entheogenic plants and fungi through political and community organizing, education and advocacy.

9 people having the power to make decisions that directly impact millions is harmful. The attack on reproductive rights and bodily autonomy will lead to more criminalization, which will further reinforce engagement with the mental health industrial complex and the prison industrial complex. Patriarchy, white supremacy, colonialism, imperialism, and capitalism are upheld through systemic and structural violence. We must work to abolish these systems while creating lasting alternatives.

The new edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders added a new disorder: prolonged grief

Pathologizing grief is harmful
Giving a time frame to grief is harmful

Grief shouldn’t be pathologized!

People don’t move on from grief!
People move with grief!

With the inclusion of "Prolonged Grief" in the DSM, grief:
* can now be billed through insurance companies (increased gatekeeping)
* will be held by a set of specific identified symptoms
* will be held to identified "normal" time frames (currently 1 year)
* is viewed as an individual experience/issue
* may be seen as a new growth market for drug companies

People are experiencing the effects of personal losses as well as collective traumas, the pandemic, inequalities, discrimination, oppression, patriarchy, white supremacy, capitalism, racism, war, financial instability, ableism, food insecurities, housing insecurities, and more!

Grief is also a symptom of the system!

So many people have not been able to engage in their grief rituals or practices with their community or family due to the pandemic

Some having to wait weeks to
bury their loved ones while isolating because of the amount of deaths occurring simultaneously

Pressures are experienced and based on capitalistic standards of “function” and don’t allow for authentic grief experiences

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT GRIEF

* Your pain is yours, in your own way, on your own time
* People don't move on from grief, but move with it
* Time does not heal all wounds
* Grief doesn't need to be fixed, it needs to be felt
* Grief and love are cut from the same cloth, neither to be pathologized
* Grief is a fundamental human experience

Nuances can be confusing and conflicting. It can feel uncomfortable to experience multiple truths at the same time without feeling as if either of them have to negate the other. If you allow for nuances to exist, you create a compassionate space for you to fully engage in your most authentic experience.

Fat isn’t inherently a negative word. It’s a physical descriptor. There are so many negative utilizations and projections of the word that have caused so much harm. The use of it in any negative way can be reflective of the deconstructions that may need to be done around internalizations of fatphobia that have been created through capitalism, diet culture, and further perpetuated by society.

We live in such an individualistic society that leaning on others for help can be misinterpreted as a red flag for codependency. Individualistic society also tells us to self care ourselves out of difficult situations, but we can’t always do that! While it is very important to care for ourselves, it’s also important to note that we can’t self care ourselves out of every issue. Community care is also essential! There is power in community. It takes community to heal community. 🖤

Abbott ordered the state of Texas to treat gender affirming care as child abuse one day after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote an opinion piece with the same rhetoric. This policing Abbott is implementing regarding gender affirming care received by minors is extremely harmful. This will decrease safety within the LGBTQIA+ community due to the reporting that he is saying must be done. Basically ANYONE is to report to DFPS, which in itself has harmed families who have navigated the system!

❗️What we should be talking about is how doctors perform medically unnecessary surgeries that harm inters*x children! Doctors choose a s*x for the child and operate on s*x organs. This doesn’t allow the children to make the decision for themselves! Who gives doctors the right to make such a personal decision regarding which s*x children should be?! This is physically and psychologically harmful, yet continues to happen!

You know what’s not psychologically harmful?! Parents affirming there child’s identity and loving them. Yet, we are being asked to punish them for doing so.

We must affirm children, their identities, and lived experiences!

Behind the Name

There are moments in life when you feel stuck in having to make life altering decisions, you are emotionally drained due to previous or present experiences, you worry about the future and what it has in store for you, or you feel grief due to a loss. It is these moments, and all in between, that create the pathways of your life. The realizations, epiphanies, or catalysts for change are often times not visible through a black and white perspective because of the intricacies of ourselves and our relation to others. This is a place where you are able to be vulnerable with yourself, enhance your strengths, continue your road of resilience, and discuss all that lies in gray.
