Army Medicine salutes Gold Star Mothers and Families!

| |

On September 28th, we honor Gold Star Mothers and Families who have lost loved ones in military service. The Gold Star represents the profound sacrifice of both service members and their families. Today and every day, we recognize that no one has given more for our nation than these service members and families.

The Army supports these families through Survivor Outreach Services, providing counseling, financial assistance, and continued connection to the military community.

Being a Soldier requires grit and commitment to physical fitness. Army Medicine embodies that commitment and is not afraid to challenge physical limits!

On Sept. 13, 2025, three Army nurses, LTC Christyn Gaa, MAJ Lauren Blake, and MAJ Troy Lambert, proudly competed as members of the All-Army Triathlon team against our sister services and Canada during the US Armed Forces Triathlon Championships in San Diego, CA.

True athletes, they demonstrated incredible muscular strength, endurance, and resilience! From the 1500m swim in San Diego Bay, to the 40km cycle in the Liberty Station District and Point Loma, and the final 10k run along the inner harbor, these professionals showed what it means to be dedicated, fit, and ready!

Great job, Army Medicine athletes!!!

Because the enemy gets a vote, Army Medicine continuously evaluates, evolves, and trains to ensure we are ready at the point of need - including underground.

Using lessons learned from the Ukraine, the 550th Medical Company (Area Support), 261st MMB, and the 44th MED BDE, Fort Bragg, executed a 10-day field training exercise focused on subterranean Role 1 and mobile medical operations.

The unit established an underground medical site with dug-in shipping containers for treatment areas and two sloped ramps for direct evacuation vehicle access. A connecting tunnel enabled protected movement between treatment and patient holding areas.

The structure was concealed using surrounding terrain features and camouflage netting, rendering it virtually undetectable from nearby roads and observation points. The Vipers executed 36-hour continuous operations under field conditions, practicing noise and light discipline by restricting casualty movement to night hours.

This realistic, high-tempo, medical support in a low-signature environment reinforces the unit’s capability to conduct dispersed, austere medical operations. Additionally, the 257th Dental Company (Area Support) joined the 550th MCAS during their exercise, establishing dental treatment capability and learning to provide care in this unique environment.
