Home Maintenance

Spring is the time to get out your checklist and work on things in and around your home. Here we gained valuable knowledge from one of our trusted contractors on how to best prepare your AC unit for it’s long summer use!

As a personal concierge part of my job is to make sure that my clients are not only happy and comfortable, but safe as well. Now that spring is here are we getting ready for the warmer months ahead, part of your spring maintenance routine should include a check of your air conditioning systems. Summer will be here before we know it, and you need to be prepared BEFORE the first heat wave arrives!

Prior to using your air conditioner in the summer, your unit should be checked by a qualified AC service technician for these important items:

1) Make sure your filters are clean.

Replace disposable filters or to clean electronic ones so you get the appropriate airflow through the system. If the air can’t get in, it can’t come out.

2) Check to make sure the equipment weathered the winter without any damage.

The AC system should be checked to ensure there is no damage, the controls and wiring are OK, and that no critters took up residence inside the unit.

3) Check its operation and make sure it is running properly.

The electrical components of the system can be affected by weather, especially in a heat pump. They should be checked for proper operation, temperature, and electrical parameters to ensure correct performance.

4) Verify if the system has the correct refrigerant charge.

If the system is low on charge, it may still work properly, but will use more energy. If it is significantly low, it will use lots of energy and possibly not work properly.

5) Check the ductwork and other accessories.

It helps to make sure the air is going to get where it is supposed to go, not air condition inside your walls or attic. And also to make sure humidifiers are turned off for the summer and other accessories are working properly.

With a quick check (usually less than an hour to complete) of these 5 important things, you can better ensure that you will have an energy efficient and cool summer in your home. And if something more substantial is found that needs to be addressed, it can be dealt with before the system leaves you stranded and warm on a really hot day.

As your loved ones begin to age, it is inevitable that not only will some of the responsibilities fall on you, but over time…your relationships inevitably suffer as well…

Children want to help but in their way…parents want help but in their way…the sparks often fly and the children take the brunt.

And at the same time your aging loved ones just want to be heard and understood… and be able to do for themselves… yes their bodies no longer cooperate the way they once did. They even feel as if their body has betrayed them in some way after all these years…

We have been BUSY!! Thank you to our wonderful clients for keeping us that way and referring new clients to us. Here are a couple of things we have recently done.....

Helped a busy family prepare to move by helping them pack and purge years’ worth of old papers that did NOT need to make the move with them.

Visited one of our seniors, took her some fresh groceries, cleaned up the kitchen, helped her open mail and pay bills that were due. Normally this is something she isn’t as mindful of. But with our help, we are there when she needs us and we can easily coordinate her needs with her family.

What we have been up to.....

Helped one of our seniors. We changed all of his insurance carriers and important information to reflect an address change that occurred 6 months ago since he did not know how to do so.

Purged a decade’s worth of collected clutter from a dining room that was no longer capable of being used. In another week, this family will be able to sit and enjoy their dining room that hasn't been used in over 7 years.

Assisted a lady who recently had surgery by buying groceries for her at the store, filled out necessary paperwork for her physician and changed her bed linens…Just a few of the things we did for her this week.
