📦⚡ Rolling Start’s Emergency Preparedness team is on the move! ⚡📦

This month, our amazing Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Genesis, has been delivering portable electric battery generators to community members who rely on power-dependent medical equipment. These rechargeable batteries help keep life-saving devices like ventilators, power chairs, oxygen concentrators, and other equipment running during power outages and emergencies, bringing peace of mind and independence to so many families.

Through this effort, we’ve been able to support people in their homes, teaching them how to safely use their batteries and giving them a tool that could truly be life-saving.

You may know these batteries were part of the Disability Disaster Access & Resources (DDAR) program, a statewide initiative that connected people with disabilities and access needs to emergency planning support and backup battery resources. Unfortunately, Southern California Edison has recently ended its funding for DDAR, meaning this critical program is no longer available as of October 31, 2025, despite how many lives it has helped protect.

This loss puts people who depend on electrically powered medical equipment at risk during the next wildfire power shut-off, heat wave, or natural disaster. We cannot stand by and let essential supports disappear.

📢 CALL TO ACTION:
If you or someone you love depends on power for their health and independence, NOW is the time to speak up.
💬 Share your story with the California Public Utilities Commission, Edison, disability advocacy groups, and your local representatives.
🗣 Let them know that people with disabilities need reliable access to backup power, and programs like DDAR should be restored and expanded, not cut.

Together we can raise our voices to protect our community! ❤️🔥

22/01/2026

Yesterday, our Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Genesis, hosted an emergency preparedness workshop at the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice 🧯✨

Community members learned how to create a personalized disaster plan and everyone who completed one received a free 3-day emergency go-bag, packed with essentials like a flashlight, phone charger, water, and more.

We host emergency preparedness classes every month at our office. Register for an upcoming session, build your own disaster plan, and receive a go-bag to help you stay ready when it matters most.
