Posity Wellness

Posity Wellness Certified Functional Health Practitioner
Lyme and Chronic Illness Coach But yet, there is little, if any improvement to your symptoms.

If there's one question that requires no explanation to someone with Lyme or other chronic illness, that would be, "Aren't you tired of being caught in the cycle of trial and error?"

Dr after Dr, specialist after specialist, you're lucky if they even acknowledge your chronic illness. You've tried every therapy, every diet, taken every pill, and likely put probes and tubes in places you never imagined. You've accepted the fact that you'll likely have chronic symptoms for the rest of your life, but do you also have to accept that it gets to rob you of enjoying life on every level? I'm here to tell you the answer is, NO! I'm also here to tell you a little secret...the reason you're stuck in the cycle of trial and error is that you and your doctors have been too busy chasing and treating symptoms, and not the cause. My name is Crysta Kremer, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioner, Biologist, and fellow Lyme warrior. I founded Posity Wellness to share key health-building principles and practices that get you feeling better while supporting your body's natural healing processes as you continue to find ways to conquer chronic illness, for good and for all. After being diagnosed with Lyme and co-infections in 2016, and spending the next several years being caught in the cycle of trial and error myself, I came accross a health building program called Functional Diagnostic Nutrition®. I was so impressed by everything I learned and the improvements I was seeing in my own health, that I decided to become a certified practitioner so I could share this knowledge with others suffering like I was. Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® is a step-by-step program that helps you uncover and remove hidden stressors that are preventing your body from functioning at its optimal level. Simply put any stressor on our body, internal or external, creates a metabolic imbalance in one or more systems across our body. Our body's survival instinct is to stay in balance at all times. If the stressor isn't removed quickly, our body dips into it's spare gas tanks so it can find balance again. If the stressor becomes chronic, eventually our gas tanks empty and our bodies can no longer find balance. Soon symptoms appear and the disease process sets in. What makes Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® so great is that we don't focus on treating the symptoms. Rather, we believe symptoms are often far removed from the actual cause, and if symptoms are present, it's likely a result of multiple metabolic systems being in chaos at once. When you're able to identify the stressors, and remove them, the body can refill its tanks, symptoms subside, and balance is restored. When an infection is present, as in the case of Lyme and co-infections, it is often because the state of the body was already in chaos because of unresolved stressors. My goal as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioner, is to work along side women suffering from chronic illness, as their educator and cheerleader. Together, we will run well-chosen functional labs that look beyond symptoms so we can identify stressors and find true healing opportunities. I invite you to join me in a FREE 30 min consultation to learn more about Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® and how I can help you. Visit www.positywellness.com to book your FREE call today.

Lack of protein increases the chance of developing increased body fat, muscle atrophy, poor sleep, blood sugar imbalances, mood swings, weak/broken hair, and a weakened immune system.

There is no "one size fits all" strategy for the amount of protein a person should eat daily because each person has different demands depending on their weight, level of physical activity, health objectives and history, age, and whether or not they are pregnant.

The key is to consume high-quality proteins daily, limit your consumption of processed, smoked, and conventional meats and dairy, and opt for high-quality free-range beef and poultry, wild-caught fish and seafood, and organic instead. Eat a variety of protein sources to satisfy all your amino acid requirements. Go beyond your usual choice of chicken and turkey; develop the habit of eating plant proteins too. Instead of consuming all your protein requirements at once, spread it throughout the day.

Try the following things so that you can add more protein to your diet:
* Adding protein powder to your breakfast smoothie
* Sprinkling nutritional yeast on top of a savory meal.
* Incorporate canned fish like sardines, anchovies, oysters, and salmon into your salads or spreads.
* Load up on seeds like chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, and h**p seeds.

The year was 2016. The diagnosis was Lyme disease and Babesiosis. On top of that, they told me the prognosis was grim…I would have Lyme for the rest of my life!

I'd been living in survival mode for over ten years, not knowing what was wrong with me. I had chronic fatigue and neck and back pain. I was experiencing wild fluctuations with my hormones and digestion and was experiencing neurocognitive symptoms you'd expect to see in someone with dementia.

Unfortunately, as many of you can relate, getting diagnosed didn't mean a clear path to health. When the doctors could no longer help me, I decided to become my best doctor. And because of that, I am here today helping women with Lyme and other chronic illnesses address the cascade of unwanted symptoms so they can get their health back and start living again.

As a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioner and educator, I use functional lab testing and clinical assessments to identify the underlying malfunctions and conditions at the root of your symptoms. I use this information to develop step-by-step healing protocols tailored to your metabolic individuality so you can feel better and start living symptom-free.

Your only job is to show up with a commitment to feeling better!

I work with all types of people with various health problems, including exhaustion, gastrointestinal problems, anxiety/depression, insomnia, infertility, and autoimmune conditions to name a few. One of the first areas I address with all of my clients is...GUT HEALTH!

Our bodies break down food into its various micro- and macronutrients that are then absorbed into the body to produce energy and build muscle, bone, and neurotransmitters, to name a few. Although your body is made to handle stress, digestion will suffer if stress becomes chronic. Your body will release hormones and "stress messengers" (such as cortisol and adrenaline) to cope with the stress, delaying your digestive demands until the stress has been resolved. This is because your body perceives stress as something urgent that must be dealt with immediately. Things like digestion, reproduction, and the immune response all get slowed down as your body escapes the danger.

Dopamine, serotonin, GABA, and adrenaline are neurotransmitters that significantly impact our mood, energy levels, memory, and mental attention. Amino acids, derived from proteins, are the building blocks for all neurotransmitters. Therefore, if you're not effectively digesting your proteins, your body won't have access to enough amino acids to produce the neurotransmitters you require to remain alert, joyful, and calm.

Additionally, gut inflammation triggers nervous system inflammation, which in turn causes anxiety, sadness, poor memory, and sleep issues. We need to boost our neurotransmitter production and reduce nervous system inflammation to elevate our mood and cognitive function. You can achieve both with the aid of digestive enzymes.

Vitamin B6 might improve your mood if you have anxiety, uneasiness, or irritability (particularly PMS). Serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and melatonin are some of the neurotransmitters made by the brain that require vitamin B6 in its bioactive form (Pyridoxine 5 Phosphate). Insomnia, vivid nightmares, brain fog, short-term memory loss, sadness, anxiety, irritability, stress, and PMS symptoms, including water retention, can all be attributed to a vitamin B6 deficiency. People who lack vitamin B6 can significantly enhance their mood by taking a tiny amount of B6.

People with digestive issues (IBS, IBD, celiac disease), consume a lot of alcohol, take birth control pills, have diabetes, impaired renal function, have an autoimmune illness, and the elderly are more likely to be vitamin B6 deficient.

Foods naturally high in B6 include pasture-raised turkey and chicken, wild-caught salmon, lentils, beans, spinach, carrots, wheat grass, and bananas. Additionally, it can be taken as a supplement in the form of bioactive Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate, like found in this product (click the link or click the link on my IG bio, click on supplements & search for Vitamin B6):

02/17/2023

The gut-brain axis is the bidirectional communication system between the gut microbiota and the brain's central nervous system. Studies show that interruptions in this communication system can result in imbalances in our cognitive function, digestion, and mood.

The central nervous system and the enteric nervous system, located in the digestive tract, communicate via biochemical signals produced by the gut's microbiota. The vagus nerve, the longest nerve in the body, is the information highway between the two.

Because the gut produces many of the same neurotransmitters that the brain does, such as serotonin, dopamine, and gamma-aminobutyric acid, which are all essential for mood regulation, the digestive system has been referred to as the body's "second brain." The digestive system is thought to be where 90% of serotonin is produced.

The gut frequently has an impact on the brain and vice versa. Stressful situations might result in digestive issues like a nervous or unsettled stomach because your brain sends warning signals to the gut when it detects trouble (e.g., the fight-or-flight reaction).

A diverse and balanced gut microbiome becomes key when addressing mental/emotional imbalances. Incorporating naturally fermented foods into one's diet and taking probiotics can support a healthy microbiome and, in turn, a good mood.

Magnesium is crucial to the function of virtually every cell in the body, particularly its role in ATP production for energy and Vitamin D absorption.

NIH Office of Dietary Supplements reported that 50% of the population doesn't get enough magnesium through diet alone. In addition, stress further depletes our already low stores of magnesium. That, coupled with the fact that low magnesium makes us more susceptible to feeling stressed out, creates a nasty cycle of cause and effect.

Symptoms of low magnesium can include:

* Insomnia
* Muscle pain, spasms, weakness, or stiffness
* Eye twitching
* Restless leg syndrome or leg cramps
* Anxiety or anxiety attacks
* Migraine headaches
* Premenstrual cramps
* Irregular heartbeat

To combat the physical and emotional effects of low magnesium, we need to get plenty of it in our diets and through supplementation.

Magnesium is abundant in dark leafy greens, legumes, nuts, grains, dark chocolate, and fish.

There are several forms of magnesium supplements. Two of my favorites are magnesium malate, which has been shown to help with energy production, and magnesium glycinate, which has a calming effect.

Aim to take 5 mg of magnesium for every pound of body weight. Its also been shown that taking multiple low doses throughout the day along with good quality fat like MCT/coconut oil or Omegas will help enhance the bioavailability of the magnesium.

This week we'll dive into supplements that help stabilize your mood. Each day I will discuss the benefits of each supplement and attach a link to my favorite products.

In the meantime, here are some other powerful things you can do to balance your mood in addition to the supplements:

* Drink at least 1/2 of your body weight in ounces of filtered water daily.
* Avoid foods that are processed or high in refined sugar and carbs.
* Choose nutrient-dense foods rich in Vitamins D, E, B6, and niacin, like wild-caught salmon, avocados, and almonds.
* Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods like broccoli, quinoa, and legumes.
* Eating sufficient protein such as eggs, fish, meat, and nuts.
* Get outside daily.
* Exercise at least 30 minutes a day and try to rotate between aerobics, resistance training, yoga, and walking.
* Get at least 8 hours of good-quality sleep each night.
* Know your stress triggers and work on avoiding them or easing them.
