Meet Kannon, a brave 3-year-old who faced Stage IV cancer with a strength far beyond his years. 💪💙

What began as recurring fevers quickly became something more serious: a Wilms tumor, a rare kidney cancer that spread to his abdomen and lungs.

Under the care of his oncology team, Kannon began treatment right away. Over the next 33 weeks, he underwent chemotherapy, radiation and a complex surgery, all while supported by a team who made him feel safe & cared for every step of the way. His care continued with close monitoring & an additional surgery to ensure the best possible outcome.

“It felt like everything that needed to go right, did,” his mom says. “It was a miracle.”

Today, Kannon is in remission & thriving. He is strong, full of life, and a reminder of how resilient children can be. 💙

In celebration of , our incredible team of child life specialists brought a bear-y sweet moment to our patients with a special Teddy Bear Clinic! 🧸🫧

This playful, hands-on experience gave patients the chance to explore medical care in a fun & comforting way. Through interactive activities, they learned about hospital tools, common procedures & built confidence in the care they may receive. 💙

Born with only two functioning heart chambers, Scarlett's family knew she would need specialized care. When the time came for a complex open-heart surgery, they traveled from Arizona to Rady Children's & placed their trust in the experts at the Rady Children's Heart Institute.

Under the care of Dr. Nigro, Division Chief of Cardiac Surgery & Cardiac Transplant Services, & our dedicated CTICU team, Scarlett's surgery was a true turning point. Her oxygen levels improved, her skin was brighter & she had a newfound joy that could light up a room.

The final steel beam has been placed atop our new 7-story ICU & Emergency Services Tower! 🏗️🎉

Before it was lifted into place, our staff, patients, families and construction partners signed their names – leaving a permanent mark on a building that will stand for hope, health and healing for generations to come.

This tower embodies our mission. We’re here for the kids: advancing hope, health and healing. 💙

Starting in 2028, millions of children will receive lifesaving care within these walls. Every signature on this final beam is part of that story.

When life hands out lemons, Charlize turns them into kindness for the community! 🍋💙 At just 7 years old, this San Diego local wanted to support patients at Rady Children's. She set up a lemonade stand in her neighborhood park and donated every dollar she raised to help bring joy to the kids who are going through so much. Thank you, Charlize, for your generosity!

When asked about her favorite part of working in the CTICU, Becca shared: “You don’t just care for the patient—you care for the whole family. It’s a privilege to bring hope, love and joy to families facing some of their hardest moments.” Our nurses are more than caregivers—they’re advocates, constantly assessing, monitoring & ensuring each patient gets the critical care they need. They stand on the front lines, supporting both patients & families every step of the way.

Our 30-bed CTICU (Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit) is dedicated to providing expert, family-centered care for children with congenital or acquired heart disease. From admission to discharge, every aspect of care happens in this specialized space, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our young heart warriors. 💙

Our Heart Institute’s CTICU provides cardiac inpatient care for patients with congenital or acquired heart disease. 🫀 This unique space is solely devoted to all levels of inpatient cardiac care, from admission to discharge, with a focus on family-centered care.

A Rady Children's romance! 💘 This , meet Dr. Sandra Leibel, neonatologist, & Dr. Sydney Leibel, board-certified allergist & immunologist at Rady Children's. 👋

Their love story began during pediatric residency in Salt Lake City, where they quickly bonded over a shared love of the outdoors. Some of their best early conversations happened on ski lifts! ⛷️

Nearly 16 years of marriage later, they have both been caring for patients at Rady Children's for 11 years & still make time to meet for lunch at work whenever they can.

"Working in medicine means there's a lot of unspoken understanding & support," they say. "Our relationship works because we respect each other's differences & share a passion for helping others." 💙
