18 years ago, a car accident left me wondering if I'd ever move freely again.

Two years of recovery. Endless doubt. The fear that my best physical years were behind me.

But yoga became my medicine.

Not just for my body - for my mind and heart too. ❤️

Now at 50, I'm not just moving again. I'm popping chin stands, running, and feeling more alive than I did in my 30s. 🥳

If you've ever thought "I'm too old" or "my body will never feel good again" - I want you to know: you're not too late!

Living Sati Yoga is gentle, accessible, and designed for every body: whether you've never stepped on a mat before or you've been practicing for years. You don't need to be flexible. You don't need experience. You just need to show up as you are.

Your body still has so much possibility in it.

Come experience what's possible for YOU at Living Sati Yoga — Mondays & Wednesdays at 6:30 PM in Hillcrest, San Diego

The "I Am" Trap IS Stealing Your Peace! 💔

😰 If you're constantly feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, or if pain is consuming your mind, you might be stuck in the most common mental trap: believing you are your thoughts, feelings, and body states.

The consequence of this identification is severe: Identifying with these states intensifies them and makes them last longer. The worst part? You start feeling bad about yourself and believe something is fundamentally wrong with you.

We lose our power to regulate our emotions and find peace.

The Simple Truth (and the Key to Freedom) 🗝️

The secret to emotional regulation is realizing there's a difference between you and what you are experiencing.

➡️ You are not your thoughts → Thinking is happening.
➡️ You are not your feelings → Feelings are happening.
➡️ You are not the tension, pain, and fatigue in your body → Tension, pain & fatigue are happening.

This simple mental shift changes everything. It creates the space you need for harmony, balance, and peace. It's the difference between being trapped in the chaos and observing the chaos.

Stop saying "I am..." and start simply noticing what is happening without judging or identifying with it. That's where your personal power comes back.

I'd love to hear what the biggest "I Am" statement you're ready to let go of today is? Let me know in the comments below! 👇

P.S. Ready to move beyond the "I Am" trap?

We don’t have to like meditation to receive its benefits. 🌿

Even when it feels uncomfortable, restless, or frustrating, the practice is still working. It’s not meant to always be relaxing — it’s meant to help us grow.

When I went to a five-day silent retreat in Bali, I expected bliss and calm. What I found instead was challenge, discomfort, and a deeper connection with myself.

Self-criticism isn’t motivation — it’s psychological self-sabotage. 💭

When we turn on ourselves, it’s like holding a gun to our own head. The body tightens, anxiety spikes, and our performance actually drops.

True courage is caring for yourself — choosing compassion instead of attack. 🌿

Why do we feel unworthy or separate from others?
Why do we turn that separation inward and begin to doubt our own value?

In Buddhist psychology, this is called the delusion of separation — forgetting that we belong to everything around us. 🌿

I love Sebene Selassie’s quote in her book “You Belong: A Call for Connection”:

“Although we are not one, we are not separate.
And although we are not separate, we are not the same.”

Everything is connected, yet everything is beautifully unique.

When I first started practicing mindfulness, it wasn’t popular — it was weird.

I remember being an intern at the UCSD Outpatient Clinic, saying, “I’m going to do mindfulness with my patients.”

People asked, “You’re going to do what?”

But 20 years later, the world has caught up. Mindfulness is now one of the most researched and effective tools for emotional healing.

🌿 Sometimes, being “ahead of your time” just means you trusted your intuition early.

A bit about me...

It has been my life’s mission to help children be seen and heard, and to teach parents how to find joy in raising a child and enjoy being a parent. The heart of parenting is in the way we connect with our children!

The seeds of this mission was planted long-ago when I was growing up in the beautiful rural area of Finland, a country where snow and darkness reigns most of the year. My serene childhood drastically changed after my parents divorced which resulted in my father’s empty promises to stay in touch, and my mother having to focus on raising two kids as a single mom. I, just like so many other kids of divorced parents, was left by myself not knowing how to deal with all the big and confusing feelings. I was left alone to grow and develop. Disconnected from my dad, and having a mom in a survival mode who was not able to meet my needs for connection and nurturing.

When I am asked about my childhood now, the story goes: “I was raised by the forest, Mother Earth herself.” All my time was spent in the woods that I found so magical and comforting. I created a deep bond with nature which over time grew into spirituality and a worldview based on harmony governed by natural laws and cycles.

When I was in the forest, IT loved me and cared for me. IT was there for me when no-one else showed up. But, there was vast emptiness and a longing for connection which I carry deep in my heart to this date.
