We just finished our first 40-hour divorce mediation training.

Eight full days of working through real scenarios and building skills in real time. By the end, I could see people starting to trust the process and settle into the role.

That is where things start to click.

I am really grateful for this group. They showed up and engaged fully.

I already have a list of ways to make the next one better.

I’m starting to get pretty pumped about the upcoming 40-Hour Divorce Mediation Training.

The program begins this week and we have a great group forming with attorneys, therapists, and financial professionals joining us.

This training focuses on practical skill development. Participants run mock mediation sessions, work through structured exercises, and receive feedback while they are doing the work.

That kind of practice helps build the muscle memory mediators rely on when conversations become complicated.

The program is approved for MCLE and CAMFT continuing education credit, including Legal Ethics and Elimination of Bias.

Robin Seigle and I will be teaching together, and we keep the group intentionally small so everyone gets meaningful time in the exercises.

Registration closes tomorrow.

Good mediation training involves practice.

Participants in the program work through mock mediation sessions, try techniques, and receive feedback while they are actually doing the work. That experience helps build the confidence and skill mediators need in real cases.

One participant shared this after completing the training:

“Shawn knows what he’s doing and he knows how to train mediators.

The course required us to jump right in and begin participating in mediation exercises. Shawn created such a warm and non-judgmental atmosphere that everyone felt comfortable participating in the exercises and listening to helpful feedback. It was the best way to learn.

The money spent on Shawn’s wonderful course was truly money well spent. I am still using some of the skills I learned today. Don’t hesitate to book this course, you won’t regret it.”

The next 40-Hour Divorce Mediation Training begins March 11 and is approved for MCLE and CAMFT credit.

Good news for attorneys and therapists.

Our upcoming 40-Hour Divorce Mediation Training has been approved for continuing education credit:

• 40 hours MCLE
• 1.5 hours Legal Ethics
• 0.75 hours Elimination of Bias
• 40 hours CAMFT CE credit
• Legal Specialist credit

The training is built around structured practice, mock sessions, and real-time feedback so participants leave with practical mediation skills.

The program begins March 11, and we keep the group intentionally small so everyone gets meaningful time in the exercises.

If you have been thinking about mediation training this year, this is a good moment to take a look.

I wrote something new about how mediation skills actually get learned.

Growing up, I watched my parents teach art. They didn’t just explain techniques. They would demonstrate, hand the pencil back, and stay close while you worked through it.

That approach stuck with me and became the backbone of how I teach mediation today. Real skill develops through practice with feedback while you’re doing the work.

If you’re curious how mediation training really works behind the scenes, here’s the piece:

A look at mediation training methods that build skill through practice, feedback, and repetition to develops confidence and muscle memory.

I’m looking forward to teaching the 40-hour Divorce Mediation Training with Robin Seigle this spring.

Robin brings deep experience and steady judgment to complex family cases. She has spent years working in the trenches and understands how to help professionals stay clear and structured when the dynamics get difficult.

Each of us brings a distinct perspective to the training. Seeing how those perspectives operate in the same case is part of the learning.

If you are thinking about adding mediation to your practice, you will be learning from both of us.

Mediation style matters.

Some mediators emphasize communication and empowerment. Others provide more direct guidance. Most experienced practitioners adjust their approach based on what the case requires.

Balance matters too.

Concerns about power imbalance come up early in many divorce cases. A well-structured process addresses those concerns through pacing, transparency, consulting attorneys, and careful screening.

This week’s Weber Dispute Resolution newsletter looks at both mediation style and process balance.

You can read it here:

Most professionals who come to mediation training already know the concepts.

What they want is confidence in the room.

That only comes from practice.

The March 40-hour training is built around structured reps, breakout work, and real-time feedback. We spend time on pacing, neutrality, and how to stay steady when things get tense.

If you’ve been considering it, now is a good time to take a closer look.
