Why Physical Therapy + Massage Therapy Work Better Together
Recovering from an injury isn’t just about treating the pain—it’s about restoring strength, mobility, and function so you can get back to doing what you love.

That’s why we always recommend combining consistent physical therapy with consistent massage therapy.

At Rehab United, physical therapy focuses on strengthening muscles, improving movement patterns, and rebuilding stability after injury. Meanwhile, massage therapy at Resolve Wellness helps by reducing muscle tension, improving circulation, and supporting tissue recovery.

When used together, these treatments can complement each other by:

• Reducing muscle tightness that may limit your exercises
• Improving circulation to help tissues recover
• Decreasing pain and inflammation
• Allowing you to move better during your rehab sessions

Consistent physical therapy helps retrain and strengthen your body, while consistent massage helps prepare and maintain the tissues so you can get the most out of your recovery.

Recovery works best when your care team works together—and that’s exactly what we strive to do.

Massage Therapists Recognized as Healthcare Workers in California
Big news for the wellness industry: massage therapists are now recognized as healthcare workers in California.

This recognition reflects something many patients and providers have known for years—massage therapy plays an important role in health, recovery, and pain management.

Organizations like the California Massage Therapy Council support standards that ensure trained, professional therapists are part of the broader healthcare and wellness community. Being recognized as healthcare workers helps reinforce the value massage therapists bring to patient care, from reducing pain and muscle tension to supporting injury recovery and improving mobility.

For massage therapists, this means greater acknowledgment of the clinical impact their work has on people’s health and recovery. For clients, it reinforces that massage therapy isn’t just about relaxation—it can be a powerful tool to support overall physical wellness, injury prevention, and recovery.

At Resolve Wellness, we’re proud to be part of a profession that supports people in feeling and moving better every day.

Why Your Body’s Fascia Is Connected
Ever feel tightness in your back that just won’t go away? The reason might not actually be your back.

Your body is wrapped in a connective tissue system called Fascia, also known as Myofascial System. This system connects muscles, tendons, and tissues throughout the entire body—meaning restrictions in one area can show up somewhere completely different.

For example, tightness in your neck or shoulders can create tension patterns that show up as pain or stiffness in your mid or lower back. Because everything is interconnected, working on multiple areas of the body can help release those restrictions more effectively.

That’s why massage therapy often focuses on more than just the spot that hurts. By addressing surrounding muscles and fascial pathways, we can help restore movement and reduce tension throughout the body.

At Resolve Wellness, consistent massage therapy can help improve mobility, decrease tension, and support healthier movement patterns over time.

Your body works as a system—and taking care of it should too.

How to Give a Simple Back Massage
Want to give a great back massage at home? Here’s a simple technique we recommend at Resolve Wellness to help someone relax and release tension.

Start by using lotion or massage oil so your hands can glide smoothly across the skin without creating too much friction.

Begin at the top of the back, placing your thumbs on either side of the spine. Use small circular motions with your thumbs and slowly work your way down the back, helping warm up the muscles and increase circulation.

Next, use big, broad strokes with the palms of your hands. Glide your hands down the back and slightly around the sides of the body to help relax larger muscle groups and create a soothing flow to the massage.

Finish by focusing on the upper traps and neck. Place your thumbs into the muscles around the traps and make gentle circular motions, gradually working up toward the neck where many people hold tension.

These simple techniques can help relieve everyday tightness and promote relaxation.

✨ Pro tip: Move slowly and keep your pressure comfortable for the person receiving the massage.

Did you know you can sprain your ankle by rolling it outward?

While most people have heard of inversion ankle sprains (rolling the ankle inward), eversion ankle sprains happen when the ankle rolls outward, placing stress on the ligaments along the inside of the ankle. This can lead to pain, swelling, stiffness, and difficulty walking if not properly addressed.

Massage therapy can play a helpful role in the recovery process by supporting circulation and helping manage swelling in the surrounding tissues. At Resolve Wellness, our therapists use targeted techniques to support the structures connected to the injured area.

Some of the areas we commonly work on include:
• The bottom of the foot to release tension through the plantar tissues and improve mobility.
• The inside of the ankle where the ligaments involved in eversion sprains can become irritated and inflamed.
• Up the calf muscles to help promote circulation and reduce fluid buildup that can contribute to swelling.

By working through these connected areas, massage can help encourage lymphatic movement, reduce tension, and support the body’s natural recovery process.

If you’re dealing with ankle pain or lingering swelling after a sprain, getting the right care can make a big difference in how you recover.
