Ever feel like your flexibility has hit a wall no matter how much you stretch? There's a technique that can actually change that — and it's called PNF. 🙌

What is PNF?

PNF stands for Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation — fancy words for one of the most effective stretching techniques out there. Here's the simple version: you stretch a muscle, contract it against resistance, relax it, and then stretch it further than before. Your nervous system essentially gets "tricked" into allowing a greater range of motion because the muscle learns it's safe to go deeper.

It's used by physical therapists, athletes, and massage therapists to create real, lasting flexibility gains — not just a temporary stretch.

This is a game changer for people dealing with tightness, rounded shoulders, or restricted overhead movement. 💪

Save this and try it before your next workout! 🔖

If you've been trying to touch your toes for years with zero progress — this is for you. 👇

Quick PNF Recap

PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) is a stretching method that combines passive stretching with muscle contraction to unlock a greater range of motion than traditional stretching alone. You stretch, you contract, you relax, and then you go deeper. Your nervous system does the rest.

It works incredibly well for the hamstrings — one of the most commonly tight muscle groups that affects everything from your posture to your low back health.

How to PNF Your Hamstring in Hip Flexion 🦵

Here's how to do it 👇

Lie on your back and lift one leg up toward the ceiling, keeping it as straight as you comfortably can. This is your starting stretch — hold it where you feel mild tension in the back of your leg.
Now flex your hamstring by pressing your heel down toward the floor or into a partner's hand as if you're trying to lower your leg — but resist the movement and stay in place. Hold this contraction for about 5 seconds.
Take a breath, fully relax your leg, and then draw it closer to your chest — lifting it higher than your starting position into a deeper hip flexion stretch.
Hold that new range for about 20 to 30 seconds, then repeat the cycle 2 to 3 more times.
Each round you should feel your hamstring releasing further and your hip flexion increasing. That's your nervous system giving your muscles permission to lengthen. 🧠

Tight hamstrings don't just affect your flexibility — they pull on your pelvis, contribute to low back pain, and affect how your whole body moves. PNF is one of the most efficient ways to address that.

That dull, squeezing pressure wrapping around your head at the end of a long day? Yeah, that's not just stress. That's a tension headache — and it's one of the most common types of headaches out there.

Here's what's actually happening 🧠

Tension headaches are typically caused by muscle tightness in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. When those muscles stay contracted for too long — hello, screen time — they pull on the connective tissue around your skull and create that signature "band around the head" feeling. They can also be triggered by poor posture, stress, dehydration, and eye strain.

The tricky part? Most people just pop a painkiller and push through. But that only masks what your body is trying to tell you.

Your muscles are overworked. Your posture is under pressure. And your body is asking for relief — not just a quick fix.

The good news is there's a lot you can do about it. 👇

Save this post because tomorrow we're sharing our favorite at-home techniques to help you find real relief. 🔖

Just because we are massage therapists, unfortunately, does not mean we get to get a massage ourselves. Although now that we are thinking about it, we should ask our own massage friends for trade... hmmm 🤔

PSA: Your chest is probably tighter than you think. 🙋

When we spend hours looking at screens, our shoulders round forward, our chest gets tight, and everything just... compresses. That's postural stress — and it's incredibly common.

The fix? Open it all back up. Here's how 🌵

Cactus Arms Get into cactus arm position — arms bent at 90°, elbows at shoulder height — and feel that beautiful stretch across your chest and the front of your shoulders. Hold it, breathe into it, love it.

Overhead Arm Reaches Simply bringing your hands above your head does wonders. Reach up, lengthen through your sides, and let your chest expand. It's one of the simplest things you can do at your desk and one of the most effective.

Do these daily and your body will feel the difference. 💫

Save this for later and share it with someone who needs a reminder to stretch! 🔖

Unlock deeper mobility and targeted relief with one of the most powerful (and simple) tools in your recovery routine — the mobility ball.

In this video, we’re breaking down how to use a lacrosse ball (also known as a lax ball in some settings) for deep tissue myofascial release and why it’s so effective for targeting specific areas of tension. Unlike a foam roller, a mobility ball allows for more precise pressure, making it ideal for hard-to-reach muscles and stubborn trigger points.

We cover:

• What a lacrosse ball is specifically used for

• Why it’s so effective for deep tissue and fascial release

• The best areas to target (hips, glutes, shoulders, feet, and more)

• How to safely apply pressure for optimal results

Because of its firm density and small surface area, the lacrosse ball helps improve tissue quality, increase blood flow, reduce muscle tightness, and support better overall movement patterns. Whether you’re an athlete, active individual, or just dealing with everyday stiffness, this tool can elevate your recovery routine.

✨ Want one for yourself?

Our mobility ball is included in the Resolve Wellness Mobility Ball Kit, available for purchase at all Resolve Wellness locations. Stop by to grab yours and start improving your mobility today.

Your body keeps the score… and right now it's losing to your desk chair. 😅

If you've been dealing with tight shoulders, a stiff neck, or that nagging upper back tension — postural stress might be the culprit. The good news? You can fight back with a few simple moves.

Here's what we love for building postural strength 💪

External Shoulder Rotations (with a band) Pull that band and rotate those shoulders outward — this opens up your chest and counteracts all those hours spent hunched forward. Your shoulders will thank you.

Lat Pulldowns A strong back is a happy back. Lat pulldowns help build the muscles that keep you upright and supported throughout the day — because good posture isn't just about reminding yourself to sit up straight, it's about having the strength to hold it.

Save this post and add these to your next gym session! 🔖

🧡 Prenatal Massage Myths… Debunked! 🤰💆‍♀️

There are a lot of rumors out there about prenatal massage — let’s set the record straight with research and trusted guidance:

✨ Myth #1: Massage can induce labor or cause premature contractions.
✔️ There’s no scientific evidence that a gentle prenatal massage causes early labor or premature contractions. Studies specifically looking at pregnancy massage and acupressure points found no connection between massage and triggering labor in women not already near labor.

✨ Myth #2: You can’t massage feet or ankles during pregnancy.
✔️ Many people believe that touching feet or ankles can stimulate pressure points that lead to labor — but this comes from reflexology traditions rather than clinical proof. Research shows no reliable evidence that typical prenatal foot or ankle massage causes labor or harms a pregnancy.

✨ Myth #3: Massage should be avoided in the first trimester.
✔️ While some massage providers choose not to schedule in the first trimester due to the naturally higher risk of miscarriage (and precautionary business reasons), there’s no clinical data showing massage itself causes miscarriage. When done gently by a certified prenatal therapist, massage is considered safe throughout pregnancy — including the first trimester — so long as there are no specific medical concerns.

💡 Bottom line: Prenatal massage — when provided by a trained therapist and tailored to the needs of pregnancy — is not dangerous and can safely help with stress, discomfort, and overall wellbeing throughout pregnancy! ✨

Uneven hips don’t just affect your posture—they can impact how you move, train, and feel day-to-day.

Massage therapy helps by:
✔️ Releasing tight muscles pulling the hips out of alignment
✔️ Improving circulation and mobility
✔️ Reducing compensation patterns in the low back and legs

Precision Meets Relaxation: The Prenatal Powerhouse 🤰✨

Pregnancy is one of the most physically demanding experiences the body can go through. To stay feeling “incredible” rather than just “getting by,” a proactive approach makes all the difference.

We recently saw this in action when one of our own PT Assistants from Rehab United came into Resolve Wellness for a prenatal massage at 31 weeks pregnant. By combining her specialized Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy with Prenatal Massage, she’s heading into her final weeks feeling mobile, strong, and ready for delivery.

The Science of Support…

When you utilize both physical therapy and therapeutic massage, you are addressing pregnancy from two essential angles:

* Pelvic Floor PT (Rehab United): Research shows that pelvic floor intervention helps manage intra-abdominal pressure, reduces the common “heaviness” felt in the third trimester, and significantly improves postpartum recovery outcomes by training the muscles involved in labor.
* Prenatal Massage (Resolve Wellness): Studies indicate that massage therapy during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, and relieve muscle aches and joint pains. It specifically targets the increased strain on the lower back and hips by improving circulation and reducing inflammation.
The Strategy: Physical Therapy focuses on the mechanics and function of your body, while Massage focuses on soft tissue release and nervous system regulation. Together, they ensure your body isn’t just carrying the weight, but moving through it with ease.

Invest in your comfort.

You don’t have to wait until you’re in pain to start these services. Preparation is the best recovery.
