How can you strengthen your quads? Quad weakness can lead to more osteoarthritis and more osteoarthritis can lead to more quad weakness.

Avoid this downward spiral by getting focused on a quadriceps strengthening program. This isn’t the only muscle group to target, but it’s arguably one of the most important for supporting the knee joint during functional activities like squatting, stairs, running, and lunging.

I’ve been chatting with a few people in my free meniscus tear support group about quadricep strengthening exercises and decided to share a few thoughts about progressing quadriceps strength training.

Check out this video and let me know what questions you have.

🔶Big Toe Pain?🔶

Repeated strain to the big toe can result in pain, swelling, and inflammation. 😫

So we must ask the question: what is causing strain to the big toe?

Several possible reasons include:

🔸Foot weakness
🔸Ankle pronation
🔸Decreased mobility of the big toe

There are other reasons, but we’ll focus on those three today.

If you strengthen the foot, control pronation better, and increase big toe or calf mobility, you can often reduce big toe soreness. (Read the captions on the videos to get more info). 🔝

You can also promote a better recovery from big toe pain by improving your nutrition. The foods and drinks you consume impact pain, swelling, and inflammation. 🥗🥑

In addition to improving your diet and foot mobility, you may want to take Active Atoms Turmeric daily to promote a healthy inflammation response in your body.

High dose turmeric curcumin like Active Atoms is shown to reduce joint pain and improve function.

Active Atoms is the brand that keeps your body moving! What other questions do you have about your health and fitness? 🏃🏽‍♂️💪🏼

🔶Tibialis Posterior Tendonitis🔶

Do you ever get pain on the inner part of your ankle and foot after running? 🏃🏽‍♂️

It’s possible you may have tibialis posterior tendonitis. After getting a diagnosis from your Doctor or Physical Therapist, it’s important to strengthen the tibialis posterior muscle so it can get better.

Tibialis posterior tendonitis often occurs when the muscle is weak and overtrained. For example, running for the first time in a while or starting a new running program may result in injury to the tibialis posterior tendon.

Immediately after the tendon is irritated, you’ll likely have inflammation in the inner part of your ankle. If excessive inflammation persists, then tendon healing can be delayed.

A little inflammation is good, but too much inflammation can work against you. Since curcumin can promote a healthy inflammation response, we believe Active Atoms would be a great supplement to aid your recovery.

Be sure to perform rehab exercises for tibialis posterior tendonitis and prehab exercises to prevent yourself from getting it.

Since we are entering 2022, now is a good time to start an exercise program and get back in shape. Just make you sure are training and recovering properly.

🔷Back Pain With Deadlifts🔷

When exercises hurt, it’s time to modify them or switch exercises.

For example, you can try a sumo deadlift instead of a traditional deadlift.

I have my clients do sumo deadlifts all the time for rehab and strength training in the clinic.

The sumo deadlift typically feels better if you have back, hip, and knee issues.

The set-up for the sumo deadlift is different but with practice you should be able to nail it and have less pain after lifting.

😖Upper Back Pain😫

Don’t worry. You can get rid of it with exercise.

In physical therapy school 8 years ago, I used to get a pain between my shoulder blades.

I tried foam rolling and stretching, but it didn’t seem to keep the pain away.

What was missing?

In my opinion, the missing piece was STRENGTH in the thoracic spine and scapular muscles.

Stretching may feel good temporarily, but if you are weak, the pain typically returns.

You can improve strength in your upper back with exercises like the ones in this video.

If you have upper back pain, then your body is literally telling you to make a change. It’s up to you to make the change.

Sometimes getting rid of pain is easier than you would think. But most of the time exercises need to be modified and progressed.

If you want professional training for rehab or general fitness, then visit www.drmarcrobinson.com and book a session with me. I have a few spots open right now and I’d love to help you build your strength back.

Last Saturday, I participated in the Jingle Bell Run and represented my corporate team Active Atoms. 🏃🏽‍♂️🎅🏼🌲

It was fun to run alongside the ocean at Liberty Station in San Diego next to my beautiful wife while supporting a good cause.

I was also honored to be one of the 2021 Medical Honorees for the Arthritis Foundation and speak on stage at the event.

There are many different types of arthritis and all of them can be debilitating.

My goal is to empower people, in spite of their injuries to get stronger, more resilient bodies through sound education, strength training, and nutrition.

Together, we can live to win! 🏅

P.S. ”DPT” should be after my name, not “MD.” I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy, not a Medical Doctor. 😂🤭

Shoulder pain while weight lifting is often the result of weakness in the rotator cuff muscles.

If you train the posterior part of the rotator cuff like the infraspinatus and teres minor in different ranges of motion, you’ll likely have less shoulder pain, better mobility, and see better strength while lifting.

Training the rotator cuff can be tricky, but you can learn basic progressions to target each one effectively so you can maintain healthy shoulders.

For more info about rotator cuff strengthening, you can check out this article I wrote:

Do your shoulders hurt after going to the gym or lifting weights? Strength training can help to reduce the risk of injury, but it can also increase the risk of injury without a proper strength training program. Many shoulder injuries occur due to training too hard too soon. The shoulder needs time t...
