Feeling down?
"Duh" you might be thinking...
I get it... If you're reading this, chances are you or someone you know is feeling pretty blue.

Read on for some signs and symptoms of depression, and then what to do about it.
Here are 11 Depression Symptoms You Shouldn't Ignore
1) A feeling of emptiness or sadness.
2) Reduced interest in activities you used to enjoy
3) Lack-of energy and constant fatigue
4) Irritability
5) Pain & other physical changes
6) Trouble Sleeping
7) Thoughts about unaliving (Please CALL OR TEXT National Su***de Prevention Help Line- 988)
8) Alcohol
9) Drug abuse
10) Slow thinking
11) Increasing isolation from friends and family, feeling alone

If you have one of these symptoms, it doesn't necessarily mean depression, but if you have a few of them, then you're probably already tired of feeling down, and ready to feel better now.

So, what do to about it?
1. Quick- stand up and do 10 jumping jacks... Or dance to one booty-shaking song (this could be ala Beyonce, or could be The Jitterbug, or, whatever song gets you up and moving!) Quick, brisk exercise helps decrease the adrenaline, cortisol and other stress hormones built up in your body. It also adds in some of those Feel-Good chemicals.

2. Find a joke, tell a joke! Find a way to laugh... even if you're "faking it" at first, smiling (for at least 19 seconds) makes enough of a difference to then... Remember (or Google) a great joke. 20 minutes of smiling or laughing every day was a big part of the solution behind what made some folks in a study who were clinically-depressed transform to become remarkably happier after 3 months.

3. Do something nice for someone else. It could be as simple as sending a text to someone to say you're thinking of them, or writing a letter, or calling someone. It could be giving someone $5 who could really use it, or volunteering somewhere for an hour. Helping others is also clinically-proven to make a person feel better.

Would you like to feel better from the inside out? If so, then hypnosis may be an option for you. With this type of therapy there are two components: one where I will lead my client into a very relaxed state (while they remain in full control at all times) and guide them to better feelings. If that sounds good with what's going on right now and you'd like to learn more, just reach out and ask to "Learn More". Typically, people want to share a bit about what's been going on in their lives (and how these emotions/feelings etc., have gotten them nowhere fast over time) and then we work some magic together to help them to feel better fast (and make it last!

Depression and anxiety can be tough, especially when you don't know how to end it (or stop it from re-appearing so frequently). While there is no magic bullet that gets rid of both instantly and forever, there are ways to drastically reduce them, and make those more-positive emotions and feelings be the ones in the driver's seat. If anyone is or has experienced either, take a deep breath... It can and will get better. The clouds can clear... and there is a sunnier side just over the horizon.

To start, just for a moment, breathe in slowly (counting to 4), then hold for 4 seconds, then breathe out for 8 seconds, then hold again for 4 seconds. Do this again 2 more times. Now smile. Even just a little smile. Now that I see those pearly-whites (or at least your lips curled up in just the slightest smile), now remember and imagine a moment of time when you felt happy- really really happy. 'Could be about a big thing (your child was born, you got that job or promotion, that cool thing you built or trip you went on...), OR it could be a simple moment (like you remembering hugging your child, or petting your doggy or kitty cat, or taking a walk that one day when you saw a pretty bird... Whatever it is... see that memory again, and relive it for a moment. Yeah, stay in that moment for just a little bit longer... 'Doesn't that feel nice? This "Happy Memory Break" is something I do often, to break up the day, and interrupt negative feelings. Try it again later on, and see how that feels.
Enjoy! 🙂
