Being a first-time parent can make EVERYTHING feel scary, especially when your newborn does things no one warned you about…

Learning what’s normal can bring a lot of relief.

But at the same time, not everything is easy to understand in those early weeks, and many health conditions don’t show up right away.

This is why understanding your child’s genetics can help.

Not because you’re expecting something to be wrong, but because having clearer information can help you feel more confident as you learn your baby.

Fore’s Genetic Health Screen looks at 1,000+ treatable, childhood-onset conditions and 100+ medication responses, helping you understand how to care for your little one as best as possible.

You’re not meant to have all the answers as a new parent, but the right information can make the unknown feel a lot less overwhelming 💙

Most expecting parents go through pregnancy without enough information…

Not because they’re doing anything wrong, but because the healthcare system doesn’t always explain the full picture.

If you want to give your baby the healthiest start possible, here’s the advice I’d share with you 💙

1️⃣ Ask what prenatal screening doesn’t cover, not just what it does.
Most prenatal genetic screening is designed to assess risk for a small number of chromosomal conditions and/or parental carrier status, not the majority of childhood-onset or treatable genetic conditions. Asking your provider which categories of conditions AREN’T evaluated can help set clearer expectations.

2️⃣ Understand the difference between carrier screening and your baby’s genetics.
Carrier screening tells you whether parents carry certain gene variants. It doesn’t analyze your baby’s genome and can’t rule out conditions that arise through different inheritance patterns or new (de novo) variants.

3️⃣ Take a few minutes to look up your state’s newborn screening panel.
Newborn screening is important, but it varies by state and is intentionally limited to a small set of severe, rare conditions. Many treatable childhood-onset conditions aren’t included.

4️⃣ Think ahead about health insights AFTER birth, not just during pregnancy.
Some genetic conditions don’t show up right away. Knowing about them EARLY can help guide care over time, rather than learning important information when things feel urgent or overwhelming.

5️⃣ View postnatal genetic screening as a planning tool, not a fear-based one.
Many parents choose advanced genetic screening after birth to better understand what to watch for, how to plan care, and which questions to ask their pediatrician – not because they expect something to be wrong, but because they want to feel as prepared as possible.

Fore’s Genetic Health Screen covers 1,000+ treatable, childhood-onset conditions and 100+ medication responses, helping parents feel informed, supported, and prepared to care for their little one.

If you’ve ever Chat GPT’d MTHFR while pregnant, you’re not alone…

…and you probably left with more questions than answers.

Here’s what often gets lost online:

✅ MTHFR is a single gene involved in folate metabolism, NOT a diagnosis: Having a MTHFR variant does not automatically mean your baby has a health problem.

✅ The most common variants (C677T and A1298C) are EXTREMELY common: A large portion of the population carries one or both, and most babies with these variants are healthy and symptom-free.

✅ Many symptoms blamed on MTHFR online aren’t supported by strong evidence: Reflux, colic, sleep issues, feeding difficulties, fussiness, and most developmental concerns are often NOT caused by common MTHFR variants alone, even though they’re frequently linked online.

✅ MTHFR variants ≠ rare MTHFR enzyme deficiency: Severe MTHFR deficiency is a rare metabolic condition with serious symptoms and is very different from carrying a common variant.

✅ One gene rarely tells the full story: Health outcomes are influenced by many genes, environmental factors, and overall context – NOT a single variant in isolation.

This is exactly why Fore’s advanced Genetic Health Screen exists: not just to surface genetic findings, but to provide context, education, and guidance so parents can understand what ACTUALLY matters.

Because genetic knowledge isn’t meant to scare you, it’s meant to support you.

Postpartum might look different for dads, but it deserves support too.

If you’re a new dad navigating postpartum, here are 5 simple things you can do to make the postpartum journey easier for you and your partner:

1️⃣ Put words to what you’re carrying.
Write it down, say it out loud, or share it with someone you trust. Naming fear or stress can help your nervous system stop treating it like a constant threat.

2️⃣ Give your body time to come down from survival mode.
Watching birth, bottling your feelings, and carrying responsibility can all take a HUGE mental toll on your nervous system. Gentle movement like stretching or yoga, deep breathing or meditation, and easing up at work when possible can all help your system reset.

3️⃣ Claim a few baby tasks as YOURS.
Bonding doesn’t need to be instant, it often grows through consistency. Choose a few routines to own and show up for every day, like morning feeds, bath time, bedtime, contact naps, or stroller loops. Over time, familiarity turns into connection.

4️⃣ Don’t ask “What do you need?”, just do.
Her mind is already overloaded with decisions. Instead of asking what she needs, offer specifics:
“I’ve got the baby, go shower” or “I’ll handle dinner tonight.”

5️⃣ Talk to someone who isn’t your partner.
You don’t need to carry everything alone – a friend, therapist, or support group can ease the mental load without adding weight to your partner’s plate.

Postpartum doesn’t skip dads, it just looks different.

At Fore, we know how overwhelming the postpartum season can be for BOTH parents. That’s why we created our advanced Genetic Health Screen.

With one simple, at-home cheek swab, Fore screens for 1,000+ treatable, childhood-onset genetic conditions and 100+ medication responses, helping reduce uncertainty about your child’s future health.

Because a little peace of mind can make all the difference during postpartum – for mom AND dad.

Most parents never imagine that a simple genetic screen could save their child’s life – until it does.

Anna and Mike chose to screen their daughter, Maya, with Fore Genomics “just in case.” Maya was healthy and thriving, but her results revealed a mutation linked to malignant hyperthermia - a rare but often fatal reaction to certain anesthesia drugs.

Three years later, Maya needed emergency surgery.
Because of Fore’s early insight, the surgical team knew to avoid the triggering medications and prepare the OR with MH precautions.

What started as a precaution ended up being a life-saving decision.

Early genetic screening isn’t about fear – it’s about preparation, prevention, and giving your child every possible advantage.

The most meaningful gift for new parents isn’t another onesie or swaddle their baby will outgrow in weeks...

It’s something that supports their baby’s health for LIFE 💙🧬

Here’s why Fore’s Genetic Health Screen is becoming the must-give gift for expecting + new parents:

✨ It catches HUNDREDS of genetic conditions that newborn screening misses.
State newborn screening checks for 30-70 conditions, while Fore screens for 1,000+, helping families identify risks before symptoms ever appear.

✨ It includes pediatric medication insights.
Fore analyzes key genes that affect medication response and offers guidance for 100+ medications, so doctors can choose safer, more effective options for their child.

✨ One simple, at-home cheek swab is all it takes.
No needles, doctor appointments, or tears required – just a quick cheek swab from the comfort of their own home.

✨ It reanalyzes their child’s DNA as new science evolves.
As new genetic research emerges, Fore automatically reanalyzes their child’s DNA and provides updated insights – no new cheek swab required.

✨ It includes access to genetic counselors.
Parents never have to interpret complex results alone – they receive real-time support from our network of licensed physicians and genetic counselors.

Clothes shrink, toys break.
But Fore’s genetic insights support a child from birth → infancy → childhood → teen years and beyond.

If you want to give new parents a gift that lasts a lifetime, this is it.

With one simple, at-home cheek swab, Fore sequences 100% of your child’s DNA to screen for 1,000+ actionable, childhood-onset conditions – spanning metabolism, immunity, neurology, hormones, and more.

In other words: newborn screening gives you a good starting point, and Fore gives you the rest of the picture.

Most parents don’t realize this, but one test at birth can’t guide a whole childhood.

Your baby will go through five major stages of development (newborn → infant → toddler → child → teen), and each stage brings new needs, new questions, and new opportunities to catch things early.

That’s why genomic screening isn’t meant to be a one-time, day-one test.
It’s a lifelong tool that grows with your child.

From early detection in newborns…to developmental insights in toddlers…to proactive health guidance in teens…

Your child’s DNA stays the same, but what we can learn from it shouldn’t.

Fore continually re-analyzes your child’s genome as new science emerges, giving your family updated insights long after that first cheek swab.

Welcome to the new era of proactive parenting, where one simple, at-home cheek swab can support your child for life.
