My lil sonshine ☀️ I’ve always loved how the sun signals to us to be grateful for the start and closing of each day. 🌅

I remember the night I was in labor thinking- this may be the last sunset I see before our boy is here with us! & a few hours later he was in my arms 🥹

The sun is such a powerful force- setting our internal clocks into motion, fueling us with energy, uplifting our mood, replenishing the earth…yet the way our society is set up today tends to pull us indoors, seated & behind screens for a majority of our days.

Is your life filled with artificial lights from phones, computers, & television screens? Or are you actively pursuing a life filled with nature and natural light?

One tends to lead to more anxiety, depression, self judgement and disease… while the other brings more joy, health, connection & FUN!

I don’t know about you, but my time outdoors is always more memorable 🥰. And while you may have a job that requires you to be inside there’s always ways to bring more nature into your life 👇🏻

• sit by a window
• get a plant for your desk
• eat your lunch outside!
• go on a family walk after dinner

You don’t have to wait for the “weekend” to get your nature fix 🌲

What’s your favorite way to infuse nature into your day?

It’s been 6 weeks since the most wild night of our lives thus far!

It was intense.
It was mental as much as it was physical.
There were points in which I wasn’t’ sure how I was going to get through it.

But I freakin’ did it. Without interventions and without a single person from our birth team, a team I had carefully selected in the first months of my pregnancy.

I put trust in other people to bring my baby into this world, when really all I needed was to trust that my body knew exactly what to do.

I had been very intentional my entire pregnancy, creating the most nourishing home for my little guy and I felt so connected with my boy.

Although my instincts told me he was coming early I was constantly told that as a first time mama I should plan to go to 42 weeks and to expect a long labor, and unfortunately these assumptions are what led my birth team to disregard what I knew was happening in my own body.

Our boy made his grand entrance right at home in our bathroom with just his dad beside us, I pulled him out with my own hands put him right up on my chest and his fierce cry let us know he was healthy and strong. He calmed down as soon as he heard our voices & that moment of finally meeting my little man was absolutely unreal.

Although this was far from what we had planned, somehow I just know this is exactly the way he wanted it to be.

Home is where I felt safe.
Uninterrupted.
Where I could let my body do it’s thing.

And that’s exactly what happened. WOW
Women are badass.
Birth is insane, beautiful, primal and there is no guidebook, team or plan that’s going to make things go smoothly. It’s really only about you & that baby- let everything else fade away.

And of course the support can be helpful, but after going through labor I realized how sacred, personal and energy sensitive the space is.

I recorded my full birth story this week and plan to share it soon, we will also hear from super DAD, husband, photographer doula & what he thought about this whole unassisted home birth 😜 thank you for keeping me fed, hydrated, and feeling confident as we tackled our greatest adventure yet 💙

A little backstory on Cruz’s name 👶🏻🏄🏻‍♂️

Alexio & I met in college at UC Santa Cruz - a little wonderland nestled between the ocean & the redwoods. 🌊🌲

my fellow banana slugs 🍌 🐌 already know the magic of this place.

Swipe to see our first photo together taken over 9 years ago on the tip top of a redwood tree on UCSC campus.

I didn’t know what I was getting into, but we hiked to this massive tree house that was built by engineer students (insane right!?) & He asked me to climb it with him… I of course said “let’s do it” (and beat him to the top😜) Alexio says this is the day he fell in love with me, and we’ve been adventuring together ever since. ☺️

Some of my fondest memories are from Santa Cruz and it holds such a large piece of my heart - when we found out we were having a baby boy I knew his name had to be Cruz 💙

We hope this little guy loves nature as much as we do (let’s be honest, he’s not going to have a choice 😂)

There is such a power in nature exposure, especially for kiddos! Nature is a tool to help us feel calm, connected & present which are important values I want to instill in my family 💙

How does nature make you feel? 👇🏻☀️⛰🌊

Messy hair
Milk stained clothes
Tears of joy and overwhelm
Sleepless nights
Endless snuggles
& soooo much love

It’s all worth it for you baby boy 💚

Life with a newborn is a wild ride. But my type-a, go-getter self has found so much contentment in doing less.

Staying present for these small moments.

Forgetting about the “to-dos” and instead leaning into slowing down.

Surrendering to the messiness that is motherhood…while still taking care of ME 🧘🏼‍♀️

In order for me to show up for Cruz & Alexio in the way that I want to- I know I have to prioritize my own needs too. This of course looks much different in this season of life (although I can’t wait to sneak away for my first facial 🤪)

But when I find little ways to show up for myself each day I’m in such a better mental state.

A hot shower & my skincare routine.
A fresh change of clothes.
A few deep breaths & a warm drink as the sun comes up.
A barefoot walk in nature.
And most importantly, a steady consumption of nutrient dense foods and hydrating beverages.

Mama’s it can be easy to lose sight of yourself & your own needs. But let’s change the narrative. Your family needs a version of you that feels supported and well nourished 💚

Mamas what was the hardest part of the newborn stage for you & what was your favorite?👇🏻

One Month of Baby Cruz Earthside 💙🌊

Your gentle but spunky.
Alert, strong & curious.

Your monkey faces and hand gestures are the best & I love how you randomly smile while you sleep. Your personality is already shining through and I’m so excited to watch you grow and continue getting to know you 💙

You’ve brought us so many laughs, a new kind of love & somehow it seems like you’ve always been a part of us🥹

Thank you for making me a mama sweet boy!

I can’t believe one week ago our sweet lil Cruz was still in my belly! 💙

painted my belly and took these fun photos for us just a few days before our Cruz made his early arrival! 🌊

Pregnancy was such a wild, empowering and transformative journey & the moment you get to meet the little human that has been kicking and growing inside you is something I’ll never forget!

Knowing that I made intentional food choices everyday, minimized my stress levels and stayed connected with my body gave me the confidence that I was giving myself AND my baby the best opportunity to thrive.

The way you take care of yourself during pregnancy has a direct effect on your growing baby. The nutrients on your plate are what build all those tiny fingers, toes and organ systems. The way you move and tend to your body primes you for labor. And the emotions you experience release hormones that are felt by baby too.

Whether you’re pregnant now or planning for a pregnancy in the future— start nourishing yourself now!!

Going into pregnancy in a depleted state puts a massive stress on your body and creates the path for a rough postpartum experience.

Educate yourself & don’t miss out on the opportunity to make a lifelong impact on the health of your little one as well as your own ability to show up as a vibrant + energized mama 💙

Need support? I have lots coming for you!!!😎

HAPPY DECEMBER 🌲 Cruz’s month is officially here and the holiday season is definitely feeling extra special this year 💚 😎⁣

I can’t believe my sweet boy could be in my arms any day now! I’ve learned so much about myself, my body and the values I want to hold onto as we grow our family ☺️⁣

I have tons of new creative juices flowing and ways in which I want to give back and help support women going through this journey. ⁣

But for now— I’m focused on supporting myself through this major transition. ⁣

I want to stay calm, present and well nourished during this precious time and for me that means unplugging, minimizing inputs and spending time in nature. ✌🏻⁣

I’m going to be taking a few months off from work and plan to get back into the groove with clients when the time feels right. ⁣

The next few weeks will be filled with naps, beach walks and date nights with my hubby as we patiently wait for our little guys arrival. ⁣🥹

Thank you for following along, I hope I’ve been able to impact you in a positive way as I share pieces of my journey👣
