Here at Communication Lab, we strive to be creative in our approach to helping individuals with autism gain the skills to self-regulate, communicate effectively and be independent. It is our top priority to provide parents with the tools needed to ensure all skills learned during our Direct Care sessions are able to be implemented into your family’s daily lifestyle! Included with our personalized ABA care plans, we also provide Caregiver Coaching sessions that include sharing regular updates on your child’s progress as we troubleshoot challenges together. Our approach may be low and slow, but here’s why we are sticking to it and don’t rely on traditional external reward systems like:

Food reinforcers ❌
Toys ❌
Stickers ❌
Token boards ❌
Tangible prizes ❌

Yes, these strategies can create quick behavior change. But quick results don’t always mean healthy or sustainable learning.

Overreliance on external rewards can sometimes lead to:
• Dependency on rewards to participate or engage
• Reduced intrinsic motivation
• Skills that don’t generalize outside of therapy settings
• Power struggles, or toxic dynamics around food or preferred items
• Compliance-based learning rather than meaningful understanding
• Increased frustration or shutdown when rewards are removed
• Children learning to mask their needs rather than communicate them

Instead, we focus on building intrinsic motivation through noncontingent reinforcement and naturally occurring, schedule-based reinforcement. We prioritize connection, regulation, and meaningful engagement so that skills develop in ways that feel safe, supportive, and sustainable.

Some of you may have known Haley as an RBT or Assistant Supervisor as she has been an integral part of our team for some time. That said, Haley has been working hard to achieve her most recent milestone and we are happy to announce that she will be continuing her career with us as the newest member on our team of Clinical Supervisors!

At its best, therapy should still feel lived-in—like real life. A naturalistic approach honors everyday moments, real relationships, and the child behind the goals.

Introducing Communication Lab

We built Communication Lab to provide tools for caretakers to build a connection with their child so they can freely express themselves and be independent.

We believe that communication is the key to opening endless possibilities. A strong connection is a foundation and gateway to meaningful relationships. We built Communication Lab to provide tools for caretakers to build a connection with their child so they can freely express themselves and be independent.

Establishing a connection with a child with autism can be difficult. Our focus is on improving all aspects of life for families that we work with. We empower caregivers by providing tools to manage any situation through direct care, oversight, and supervision of children and therapists, caregiver coaching and consultation, and conduct analysis-based assessments.

Our vision is based on the collaborative relationship between our Communication Lab team and the families we serve. We choose to be scientific and meticulous in our approach which allows us to build new behaviors that will lead to improved communication, a strong connection, and a deeper understanding between caregivers and their children. Life should always be fulfilling and rewarding.
