"I am scared for our society and the way that we are currently celebrating autism. For some of you reading, that last sentence might have struck a nerve, but please hear me out. Autism, in some cases, is much more than what you see in popular culture from tv shows like āLove on the Spectrumā or āThe Good doctorā. I am talking to you about what is commonly referred to as severe autism or profound autism."
"The saying should not be that autism is a superpower. Instead, we should say that people who live through each day, despite having the most distressing and most debilitating symptoms of autism, are super humans. We are fighters in every sense of the word, but if there are things we can do to make the battle easier, we would be remiss not to try. All soldiers have weapons. I encourage you to load up your arsenals with knowledge about root causes and prevention measures, so this is a battle we can fight and win together."
