Eating Disorders Recovery Coaching Welcome to the home of Justine Lichtenstern’s eating disorders recovery coaching page. I am a certified nutritionist and eating disorder recovery coach.

I specialize in coaching individuals who want to recover from eating disorders, disordered eating, and the negative effects of chronic dieting. I do not turn anyone away for not being "sick enough." If you are wondering if you are sick enough, then I can assure you that you are indeed. I help my clients connect to their internal wisdom and strength in order to develop a way of eating and moving that supports their mental, emotional and physical well being. I understand the nature of the illness and why people feel stuck and repeat the same harmful, life stealing, self-sabotaging behaviors, over and over again. I practice a weight neutral, body positive approach that focuses on replacing negative thoughts with healthy ones, and healthy behaviors, not weight, numbers or restriction, as the key to long term health. My approach is highly individualized and rooted in developing a strong client-coach relationship. As your eating disorder recovery coach, I can help you with accountability via daily or weekly support in order to help you heal your relationship with yourself.

Diet culture often shows up in unsuspecting ways. One of these is “SkinnyTok”, a way that people repackage their behaviors and diets on social media platforms. This can be very dangerous, especially to those in recovery.

Do your best to avoid these accounts and trends to protect your recovery.

Friendly reminder!

Thinness is connected to control, especially women being perceived as being small, cutesy and QUIET.

In restriction, you can’t revolt or challenge things around you.

Thinness is intertwined with Western christianity and being a “good woman” by having a small frame that is appeasing to a man.

Right now conservative spaces are using fatphobia to attack the “liberal”.

When conservative values increase so does societies fixation on thin culture.

Listen- I get how HR can be seen as ‘giving up’- however, it is inherently about keeping folks safe, alive and holding hope for those who fall through the cracks of mainstream treatment and/or those who simply cannot or do not want to access it. It isn’t sitting back and doing nothing. It is creatively honoring autonomy while exploring strengths, barriers, values, future goals, compassionate witnessing, holding hope, etc. It is often a stepping stone to pursuing recovery, but not always. Sometimes it is survival. We can hold dialect as providers: I want you to recover, I am worried about what happens if you don’t, I will always hold hope for your recovery AND I accept that you are the leader of your life, if this is where you are right now, then I am here to help keep you safe and alive.

Also, I am not against gold standard treatment. Aspects of it have helped me reach meaningful recovery and I use many evidence based modalities and skills with my clients. I am against the idea that the gold standard applies to every one, in every context at all times without any augmenting or nuance.

Thoughts? Tell me below.

Posted • .jenniewh The process of unlearning the garbage I absorbed in treatment centers has been such an intense and laborious endeavor.

The conceptualizations of eating disorders in broader treatment centers emerge from the systems of oppression under which they are structured.

The aggressive individualism of capitalism guides beliefs about the suffering of the person being their fault, being their choice.

True understanding of eating disorders requires stepping into the space of hurt and pain, being with someone in humility, and offering presence as they define their own experience.

If you are a provider and are looking to unlearn these beliefs, please join me in this work. It is revolutionary and can unlock so much healing and future building with our clients which is what we all want to do.

😋Brown sugar cinnamon Pop tarts.

🆘 Seriously, we need to be paying attention to what matters, not seed oil nonsense and demonizing processed foods - all of which are perfectly acceptable forms of nutrition. Children going to bed hungry, is not.
