Project New Village - San Diego

Project New Village - San Diego Improving fresh food access in Southeastern San Diego is part of a broad-based movement to build social equity, giving way to healthy neighborhoods.

Our goal of improving fresh food access in Southeastern San Diego is part of a broad based movement to build healthy neighborhoods. PNV has embraced urban farming and community engagement as our primary tools to improve food access, food security, and environmental wellness. We use a social determinant of health model which views food equity and self-determination as key factors for achieving better health.

As we wrap up October, we still have a limited amount of watermelons available for customers this week, red and yellow flesh versions.  This will probably the last watermelons of the season.  Other highlights on the People’s Produce MFM truck this week are the Granola snacks made exclusively by students from Morse High School and microgreens compliments of Noura who is one of our hyper-local partners.

Lastly, we want to give a shoutout to a newly formed juice business in the community named Dru Juice () who have been purchasing fruit from Project New Village to make their products.  If you go to the Lemon Grove Farmers Market, be sure to sample their delicious juice!

The shutdown isn’t just politics — it’s parents skipping meals so their kids can eat.
It’s seniors choosing between food and medicine.
But together, we can change that.
San Diego takes care of its own.
