Project New Village - San Diego

Project New Village - San Diego Improving fresh food access in Southeastern San Diego is part of a broad-based movement to build social equity, giving way to healthy neighborhoods.

Our goal of improving fresh food access in Southeastern San Diego is part of a broad based movement to build healthy neighborhoods. PNV has embraced urban farming and community engagement as our primary tools to improve food access, food security, and environmental wellness. We use a social determinant of health model which views food equity and self-determination as key factors for achieving better health.

This weekend was planned to be PNV’s annual Delores Huerta and Cesar Chavez Day of Service - a day to gather as a community in the Mt. Hope Garden to build solidarity and work together. This year our event name changed in response to feedback from the community to pay larger tribute to Delores Huerta’s role and activism in the farmworker rights movement. Now, in light of the recent revelations surrounding Cesar Chavez, we are again renaming our annual day of service to the “Dolores Huerta Day of Service.” Moving forward we’re proud to rename this annual event and fully pay tribute to the work and legacy of Dolores Huerta. We stand in solidarity with the survivors of all forms of violence. It is in this spirit that we hope you will join us to celebrate Delores Huerta and the farmworkers rights movement with neighbors and friends while we work toward food sovereignty in Southeastern San Diego.
