The Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah begins Sunday evening. It is the Jewish New Year. The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah, literally "day of shouting or blasting." It is the first of the Jewish High Holy Days. Happy New Year to our Jewish patients and friends!

The American Associaiton of Orthodontists suggest that all children be evaluated by an orthodontist at age 7. Although your child’s bite and teeth may appear within normal limits at first, through complimentary follow-up visits we can monitor for potential issues to appear. We watch for things such as crossbites, deep bites, impacted teeth, missing adult teeth, over-retained baby teeth, pre-mature/early loss of baby teeth causing space loss, ectopic eruptions, skeletal growth, and much more.

We have all done it . . . using teeth to snap off a clothing price tag, open a bag of chips, or unscrew a bottle top. Teeth can be delicate and easily broken (and dental work, as well). Use your teeth for chewing and smiling and leave the other work to the tools!

Yes … elastic wear or lack of it, when prescribed, influences your treatment time! Elastics should be worn exactly as the doctor prescribes. If you forget to wear them, do not double up the next day – that won’t make your teeth move any faster and it could make your mouth very sore. Follow the doctor’s instructions and we’ll get the movement we need to help you reach your deband date on time! Remember that you can always drop by our office during business hours if you need additional elastics.

National Nurses Week is celebrated every year from May 6 to May 12 to shine a spotlight on the incredible nurses (registered nurses, nurse practitioners, LPNs, and others) across the country that have devoted their lives to the betterment of the lives of others. Nurses have put their lives on the front lines for over two years in the fight against the COVID pandemic. While one week is not nearly enough, we want to take this week every year to share our gratitude by offering our support for the work you do every day, in times of crisis, and always.

Today is National Beverage Day. So, we thought this might be a good time to remind you of the drinks to avoid with braces when your teeth can be even more susceptible to tooth decay.
• Soda (diet and regular): Many people believe that diet soda is okay for our teeth since there's no sugar in it. However, diet soda is still very acidic, which essentially speeds up tooth decay.
• Sports drinks: Sports drinks may advertise as being healthy and replenishing, but most of them are very high in sugar, which can lead to tooth decay.
• Fruit juice: Much like sports drinks, fruit juices are also sadly high in sugar - leading to tooth decay.
It is safe to consume milk products and drinks made with tap water, such as Crystal Light, Gatorade, lemonade, and Kool-Aid.
• Dark-colored beverage such as coffee, tea, and red wine: These can not only stain your brackets, but they can also stain your teeth. If you still choose to drink these dark beverages, rinse with water or mouthwash afterwards.

Feeling stressed out and over-loaded? Try smiling. According to recent studies, smiling has the power to reduce stress and increase our ability to deal with trying situations. This is largely because smiling boosts endorphin output and forces us to breathe deeper, resulting in a calmer outlook and increased coping ability
