🏥Nothing warms our hearts quite like our own nursing team hosting a meal! Pictured here is the Jacobs Medical Center 4FGH Surgical Oncology Team. These powerhouse workers took time out of their busy day to serve a HUGE meal for our guests in La Jolla Family House.

The best part? Some of these nurses serving up a meal are caring for the guests under our roof in the hospital too! Talk about full-circle patient and family-centered care.

We are blown away by the strength of our team at UC San Diego Health and can't wait to see you again soon!

🤯🤯🤯 We're using Denise's head for scale!! LOOK at what our neighborhood grocery store, Lazy Acres Market, brought to Bannister Family House! We have never seen more pasta in our lives - they prepared spaghetti with marinara sauce, grilled chicken, and the absolute BEST garlic knots - freshly pulled, baked, and brushed in a delicious garlic herb butter. We are so lucky to have such strong partners on our street!

🎃💪🎃This girl is a superhero for , and every day! She and her mom helped organize a school-wide volunteer group at St. Vincent's - WOW! They spent so much time creatively decorating and distributing dozens of Halloween Snack Bags at Bannister Family House.

Snack bags are a true lifesaver, as many families often rush to the hospital without a chance to cook a meal in our Community Kitchen. Sometimes, these snacks are the only thing a caregiver may have for that day while they're focused on their loved one. We are so appreciative of volunteer donations, especially when they show up during the holidays!

Let us know if you're feeling inspired too - we'll get you set up with a project of your own!

Homes Away From Home

Imagine being far from home, and the unexpected happens: a loved one becomes critically ill. While your loved one is in the hospital, where will you stay? Is there a place to do laundry, receive supportive services, prep meals, and rest? When a loved one is hospitalized far from home, it can make an already stressful situation even more so.

To help ease that burden, the Family Houses at UC San Diego Health provide havens of hope and comfort for families with a loved one in long-term or critical care at UC San Diego Health. For 25 years, Bannister Family House in Hillcrest has welcomed more than 6,000 families from all over the world. And in 2020, we are excited to welcome a second home, the La Jolla Family House, to help even more families in need. To learn more, visit health.ucsd.edu/bannister.
