If you're in that "tired but wired" place—where you're exhausted but can't actually rest—your body is telling you something.

This is one of the things we see most often at Calm. And it's one of the things acupuncture is uniquely good at addressing. We help your nervous system downshift so your body can actually recover.

You don't need another productivity hack.
You need support. 💙

02/24/2026

This is why we don't just tell you to "manage your stress." We work with your nervous system directly—through acupuncture, vagus nerve support, and creating a space where your body can actually let go.
If relaxation feels harder than it should, it's not a discipline problem. It's a nervous system pattern. And patterns can shift. 🤍

02/22/2026

If you live with chronic pain, you already know it’s not just physical.

It’s the way pain follows you into your sleep.
The way it chips away at your focus and patience.
The way you start planning your days—and your life—around it.

And over time, it can make you feel isolated, like you’re carrying something no one else fully sees.

Here’s what we want you to know: pain doesn’t have to be your baseline. And you don’t have to manage it alone.

At Calm, we take a nervous system–informed approach to pain care—looking at what’s driving the pain beneath the surface, not just where it shows up. Our goal isn’t quick fixes. It’s helping your body feel safe enough to heal.

If you’ve tried everything and are still hurting, this may be the missing piece.

We’d love to help 💙

👋 Hi, I’m Angela—founder of Calm San Diego and a licensed acupuncturist with over 15 years of experience helping people find their way back to balance.

My path to this work is deeply personal. With a background in social work and years spent supporting a loved one through mental illness, I became fascinated by the mind–body connection—and how emotional health, physical symptoms, and the nervous system are inseparable.

That belief is at the heart of Calm.
We blend traditional Chinese medicine with modern, evidence-based care to support the nervous system and help the body regulate, heal, and feel safer—naturally.

I support patients with:
🌿 Stress, anxiety & mood regulation
🌿 Perimenopause & menopause (sleep, mood shifts, nervous system changes)
🌿 Chronic pain & tension
🌿 Hormone balance & women’s health

Outside the clinic, I’m a mom to two energetic boys 👦❤️👦 and the founder of The Pain Free Project, a nonprofit providing acupuncture care to survivors of human trafficking.

I find calm on San Diego’s trails, through a good book club read, and with my hands in the garden 🌱

What helps you feel most calm? I’d love to hear 💙

Your body is always communicating with you 👇

A dysregulated nervous system rarely shows up as one big, obvious problem.
More often, it looks like a collection of smaller signals that are easy to dismiss—or push through.

Common signs include:

🔸 Wired but tired — exhausted, but unable to truly relax
🔸 Racing thoughts — especially at night when your body should be winding down
🔸 Jaw or neck tension — stress needs an outlet somewhere
🔸 Trouble sleeping — falling asleep, staying asleep, or both
🔸 Easily overwhelmed — things that once felt manageable now feel like too much
🔸 Digestive issues — bloating, irregularity, or that “nervous stomach” feeling

If this sounds familiar, you’re not broken.
Your nervous system is responding to ongoing stress—and asking for support.

This is exactly the work we do at Calm.
Through acupuncture and integrative care, we help your body regulate, reset, and return to balance—gently, without adding more to your plate.

If you’ve been feeling “off” and can’t quite pinpoint why, this may be an important piece of the puzzle 💙

The Year of the Fire Horse begins February 17th—and this one only comes around once every 60 years 🐴🔥

Here's what that means for your body 👆

We're leaving the Year of the Wood Snake—a time of shedding old stories and internal recalibration. Now that clarity is ready to move.

But here's the thing: a year of high-output energy without built-in recovery is a recipe for nervous system overdrive. The "go" signal will be loud this year. Your job is to make sure the "rest" signal doesn't get drowned out.

The goal isn't to match the pace around you. It's to build a foundation that lets you move without depleting yourself.

A regulated nervous system can handle intensity. A dysregulated one burns out trying.

Inside:
✨ Why this year is rare (60-year cycle)
✨ The shift from Wood Snake to Fire Horse
✨ Fire's connection to your Heart + nervous system
✨ Signs your Fire is balanced vs. in excess
✨ What this year asks of you
✨ Foods that support your Heart
✨ How to sustain your energy without crashing

This is a year for forward movement—but the ones who thrive will be the ones whose systems can handle it.

Save this one. 💙

Here’s why we talk about gut health so much 👇

About 90% of serotonin—the neurotransmitter involved in mood, sleep, and emotional regulation—is produced in the gut, not the brain.

That’s why “gut feelings” aren’t just a metaphor.
Your gut and brain are in constant two-way communication through the gut–brain axis, influencing how you feel, think, and respond to stress.

A 2024 UCLA study found that people with higher stress resilience had distinct gut microbiome patterns—more anti-inflammatory bacteria and stronger gut barrier function. In other words, the state of your digestion directly affects how well your nervous system can adapt and recover.

So when anxiety lingers, mood feels low, or something feels “off” without a clear reason, your gut may be part of the picture.

This is why we place such a strong emphasis on gut health at Calm. Supporting digestion isn’t separate from supporting your nervous system—it’s foundational to it.

If this resonates and you’re curious what gut support could look like for you, we’re always happy to talk 💙

💘 Happy Valentine’s Day!

Let’s talk about the connection between your hormones, energy, and libido 👇

Low desire, persistent fatigue, or feeling disconnected from your body aren’t just “normal” parts of aging or a busy life. More often, they’re signals that your hormones and nervous system need support.

Food can be a powerful place to start. Here are six hormone-supportive foods we often recommend:

🍫 Dark chocolate — rich in magnesium and phenylethylamine, which supports mood and relaxation (yes, there’s a reason it’s linked to romance).

🦪 Oysters — one of the best natural sources of zinc, essential for hormone production in all bodies.

🥑 Avocado — healthy fats are the building blocks of hormones, plus vitamin E for reproductive health.

🐟 Fatty fish — omega-3s help reduce inflammation and support balanced estrogen and testosterone levels. Think salmon, sardines, and mackerel.

🫚 Maca root — an adaptogen traditionally used to support energy, stamina, and libido. Easy to add to smoothies or warm drinks.

🎃 Pumpkin seeds — another zinc-rich food, with added magnesium to support stress resilience and sleep.

Here’s the key takeaway:
Desire and energy aren’t just mental—they’re deeply physical.

When hormones are supported and the nervous system feels safe, connection tends to follow more naturally.

If this resonates, hormone balance is one of our specialties at Calm. We’re always happy to talk about what support could look like for you 💙

Stop taking the wrong magnesium 👇

Magnesium isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Different forms do very different things—and taking the wrong one is why so many people say,
“Magnesium didn’t work for me.”

Here’s the simple cheat sheet:

🧻 Constipation → Magnesium citrate
Draws water into the stool. Great for regularity, not ideal before bed.

😴 Stress & sleep → Magnesium glycinate
Calming, gentle, and supportive for the nervous system.

💪 Muscle pain → Magnesium malate
Supports muscle recovery and energy production.

🤢 Indigestion → Magnesium oxide
Poorly absorbed, but useful short-term for heartburn or constipation.
❗Not ideal for sleep, anxiety, or long-term repletion.

❤️ Heart health → Magnesium taurate
Supports cardiovascular function, blood pressure, and blood sugar balance.

🧠 Cognition → Magnesium L-threonate
The only form shown to cross the blood–brain barrier. Best for focus and brain fog.

Why this matters:
Magnesium works based on what it’s bound to—glycine calms, malate fuels energy, taurine supports the heart.

Quality matters just as much as the form.
Many store-bought magnesium supplements are poorly absorbed, under-dosed, or mixed with fillers that limit effectiveness. That’s why results vary so much—and why people think “magnesium doesn’t work.”

At Calm, we carry and recommend practitioner-grade magnesium—clean, well-absorbed forms from brands we trust and use clinically.

Not sure what to choose?
Ask us. We’ll help you pick the right form and the right quality for your body and your goals.

Save this for later—and next time you’re supplement shopping, skip the guesswork ✨😉

Still in cold and flu season. Here's your January immune checklist:

☐ Astragalus daily (preventative—not once you're already sick)
☐ Vitamin D3 (you're probably still deficient)
☐ Warming foods: ginger, cinnamon, bone broth
☐ 7–8 hours of sleep (non-negotiable)
☐ Elderberry on hand for the first sign of illness
☐ Stress management (because stress tanks immunity)

The January trap?
Going hard on resolutions while ignoring rest.

Your immune system doesn't care about your goals. It cares about whether you're sleeping, eating, and managing stress.

Protect your energy this month. Everything else depends on it.

If you want a personalized immune protocol, we can help with that too.

January asks a lot.

New goals. Fresh starts. High expectations.

Meanwhile, your body is still recovering from last year.

Acupuncture isn't about forcing change. It's about giving your system the support it needs to actually make change possible.

What if healthy eating didn't feel like a fight?

If you're white-knuckling your way through every meal, that's not discipline—that's your nervous system working against you.

Here's the Calm approach to eating in January:
✗ Strict rules, calorie counting, guilt spirals
✓ Warm, nourishing foods that actually support your digestion

✗ Smoothies and raw salads in the coldest month
✓ Soups, stews, roasted vegetables, bone broth

✗ Willpower as the strategy
✓ Blood sugar stability + nervous system regulation

When your body feels safe and nourished, healthy choices start to feel easy.
When you're stressed and running on empty, everything feels impossible.

Start with support. The rest tends to follow.
