The impact that our AABC community members in their work never ceases to blow us away.
President of the NY State Chapter of AABC (NYSBCA) and founder of The Birthing Place, Myla Flores, had her Womb Bus featured in CBS News for its impact on families in the Bronx. 🚌🤰

The "Womb Bus" is a mobile wellness clinic that brings the services of the Birthing Place Foundation to under-represented communities in the Bronx, especially BIPOC families who experience significant systemic barriers to happy, healthy birth experiences. When the system is failing our families, the birth center community rises to the challenge with innovation and passion.

"I feel fortunate enough to kind of break that generational cycle of traumatic births," said one visitor of the Womb Bus.

An excellent article today from . Note the lack of evidence supporting the use of continuous fetal monitoring, the clear influence of business and economics, and the money grab from AI companies who claim studies support their product - when in fact they don’t - resulting in remote monitoring hubs.

I especially love that placenta accreta is described early in the article so the public can see that cesareans carry risk. As a result, we need to ensure that they occur only when needed or wanted.

Note that the photo for this article is of a remote monitoring hub. One such hub is up to 60 miles away from the hospital in which the woman is laboring.

“Nearly every woman who gives birth in an American hospital is strapped with a belt of sensors to track the baby’s heartbeat. If the pattern is deemed abnormal — too slow, for example — doctors often call for an emergency C-section.

But this round-the-clock monitoring, the most common obstetric procedure in the country, rarely helps baby or mother. Decades of research have shown that the tool does not reliably predict fetal distress. In fact, experts say, it leads to many unnecessary surgeries as doctors overreact to its ever-changing readouts.

The obstetrics field has long ignored these problems. Now, it’s putting more trust than ever on the flawed technology, often prioritizing business and legal concerns ahead of what’s best for patients, The New York Times found.

This fall, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists updated its guidelines on continuous monitoring, sanctioning it even as some other wealthy countries have cautioned against its routine use…

All three remote hubs, along with 400 other hospitals around the country, use A.I. software to help analyze the heart data. The software’s maker, PeriGen, has claimed on its website that 50 studies backed up its products.

But none of the studies found that the technology improved birth outcomes. PeriGen removed the list of studies after an inquiry from The Times. The company’s chief executive, Matthew Sappern, acknowledged that no clinical trials had shown benefits.”

Muscles pulling up to push down, bringing the baby down and out. ❤️

đź’Ş Wow, look at this powerful contraction! During labor, contractions come in a strong, rhythmic pattern. As deep internal tightening and squeezing of the belly, often felt as a wave of pressure and cramping that rises and falls. I like to think of each contraction as climbing a mountain. It begins gently, as the muscles of the uterus start to tighten you feel the build up as the intensity gradually increases, your body working in perfect rhythm. Then comes the peak the very top of the mountain which is the most powerful part of the contraction when your body is doing its greatest work to dilate the cervix and move your baby down. This moment, although intense, is brief usually just about10 to 15 seconds. Then, you move into the let-down, where the wave begins to ease, and the muscles soften and relax. Finally, you reach the break, the valley after the mountain where your belly is calm, your body rests, and you can take a deep breath, recharge, rest yourself as you prepare for the next wave.
Each contraction brings you one step closer to meeting your baby. Trust your body, trust the process, and remember you are powerful beyond measure!

The birth world lost a legend today.

We are so sorry to hear this news from Michel Odent's family.

"It is with great sorrow that the family of Dr Michel Odent announce his death at the age of 95. Dr Odent was born July 7, 1930, in Bresles, France. He died peacefully in London, England, on August 19, 2025 following a brief illness.

Dr Odent trained as a general surgeon in Paris, and advocated for the demedicalisation of birth whilst in charge of Pithiviers Hospital. In later life, he founded the Primal Health Research Centre in London, and published extensively on topics related to childbirth and early breastfeeding.

He is survived by many loved ones, including his partner Liliana, and children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family wishes to express their thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to La Leche League. Dr Odent will be cremated in a private family service with a public memorial to follow in several weeks."
