March is awareness month! 💚 CP is the most common motor disability in childhood, and premature infants—especially those born before 28 weeks or with extremely low birth weight—are at the highest risk.

A recent systematic review found that early screening methods can detect cerebral palsy before 12 months of age. The most effective tools include: General Movements Assessment (GMA), brain MRI, and neurologic and motor evaluations. When these methods are combined, they significantly improve early diagnosis.

Early identification allows infants to start targeted interventions sooner, which may improve developmental outcomes and reduce long-term disability.

🫁 Breathe Easier: Optimizing CPAP in the NICU

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) remains a cornerstone of respiratory support for preterm infants in the NICU. This article highlights current best practices for delivering and fine-tuning CPAP to help babies breathe more comfortably and safely. It covers strategies to: optimize pressure settings, choose the right interface (like mask vs prongs), reduce complications such as nasal injury, and tailor care to each baby’s respiratory needs. The goal? Support lung stability and growth while minimizing stress and skin damage during this critical early period 🍼✨
