🍃 Love love love this quote about the risks (loss, betrayal, apathy, distance... to name a few) yet absolute necessity of vulnerability when it comes to being close to others. Stole this from you

🍃 Core beliefs grow out of our childhood and adulthood attachment relationships and get internalized so deep within that we respond as if they are more powerful than our own abilities to overcome, connect, grow... etc. Thank you for these great examples of how to challenge them using language @ San Diego, California

I’ve been trying to get more informed as a therapist about how I should be asking, listening, and talking to my clients about race, racial trauma, and the genetic and social effects of internalized systemic inequalities. I am recognizing that this is an important area where funding, research, and training in my field are lacking. Of course I’ve had a few related classes, attended a few trainings, and have read some required books and journal articles. This is a start. But more importantly, I realize that I personally have not spent the time in preparation, assessment, or treatment to really sit with and recognize how much race is a piece of the story for my clients of color (as my privilege has allowed).

Here are some great podcasts, webinars, and panels if any of you LCSWs, MFTs, or PsyDs are interested! @ San Diego, California

🍃 Happy Friday & Memorial Day Weekend! This post is simply an acknowledgment of how hard it is out there for everyone right now ... We as human beings are built for connection and thrive in emotional and physical proximity to others. Challenges we seem face are difficult enough already and are only heightened during distance from one another! Sending virtual hugs and wishes for a safe, healthy, and connected weekend for each of you. We’re in this together!

Love and the many helpful tips she shares on her page! Many times we think we are only having an interaction in the present. However when we zoom out ... 5 times out of 10 we are responding with stances developed by layers of experiences we’ve internalized over the years. It can be helpful to talk to a therapist or consult other mental health resources to gain insight about the crossover from past to present and how to communicate in healthier ways internally and in our relationships. Any of these sound familiar?

I’ve been listening to podcasts this week interviewing some of the original strategic MRI group psychotherapists that are still alive today, including Cloé Madanes. I thought this quote of hers was particularly fitting for the current time. Regardless of how you are being affected by COVID19, may you find therapeutic comfort in however you are managing! We’re in this together!
