Care That Keeps You Smiling I love practicing dentistry. Values? Why?

And I think it shows in my approach to my work, in my endless quest for more knowledge about the best dental care – and in my approach to my patients. In my office, we practice “one size fits one,” a philosophy that honors patient’s individual needs and values. What do values have to do with dentistry? Every patient comes to the dentist wanting different things: we work with you to make sure that we respect your individual preferences. We are partners—not drivers in our goal to make sure that your teeth can last a lifetime. Dentistry isn’t only about treating teeth – it’s about treating the whole person. That’s why I begin every new relationship with a thorough exam. During the exam, we use the latest in x-ray technology to examine the teeth and bones, only taking what is absolutely necessary. Because I take films according to what is appropriate for you, not what your insurance will pay for. After the examination, we discuss the findings and develop a plan together. We look for early signs of problems so we can address them before they become bigger problems – and a bigger expense for you. I am admittedly a continuing education junkie. Through my memberships in the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Diego County Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and the L.D. Pankey Study Club of Southern California, I have ample opportunities to learn about the latest advances in dental care: I also serve as a member of the Ethics Committee for the County Dental Society, and am an alumnus of the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education, a rigorous program that emphasizes full-mouth reconstruction, TMJ therapy, and advanced cosmetic techniques. I look forward to seeing you!

Our logo tells our story💙

Oral health is about more than teeth.
Your smile is connected to your systemic health, influencing your heart, breathing, posture, and overall wellness.
Your TMJ (jaw joints), muscles, teeth, and airway all work together. When one is out of balance, it can affect your whole body.
That is why we focus on comprehensive care, protecting your smile while supporting your total health.

Have you noticed small notches near the gumline of your teeth? This could be tooth abfraction, a condition caused by excessive stress on the teeth from clenching, grinding, or an unbalanced bite. Over time, this stress weakens the enamel, leading to sensitivity, structural damage, and an increased risk of decay.

If left untreated, abfraction can worsen, affecting both the strength and health of your teeth. At David P. De Rosier, DDS, we can help identify the cause and recommend the best treatment, whether it’s an appliance, bite adjustment, or restorative care.

True or false: the tooth is the only part of the human body that cannot fully heal itself. This is true! Because it contains no living cells, tooth enamel cannot repair damage from decay or from wear. Only our team can correct these conditions. That's why it's so important to practice good oral hygiene and see us at David P. De Rosier, DDS if you have any concerns.

If you haven’t been to the dentist in over 6 months, this is your wake-up call. The American Dental Association recommends regular dental checkups and cleanings to maintain oral health and prevent dental problems. The frequency of visits may vary depending on individual factors, but individuals with healthy gums and teeth should generally visit David P. De Rosier, DDS every 6 months. Individuals with a history of gum disease, cavities, or other oral health issues may need more frequent visits. Schedule your next appointment here 👉 619-222-7400

If you frequently reach for a piece of gum after a meal, you may be surprised to learn that you might actually be helping your teeth. Let's chew on this: while sugary gum is a definite no-no, sugar-free gum can have some perks. It stimulates saliva production, which helps neutralize acids and wash away food particles. It can also help prevent cavities by removing food particles from the surfaces of your teeth. Look for gums with xylitol for added cavity-fighting power. 💪

It's common advice to always brush your teeth right after eating. This is actually a myth! 🙅

It's better to wait a bit after eating acidic foods (like citrus fruits or soda). After eating acidic foods, your tooth enamel temporarily softens, and brushing right away can wear away this weakened enamel. It's best to rinse your mouth with water to help neutralize acids and freshen your breath. Wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth.
