You are NOT crazy. If you’re feeling the anger, lift some heavy weights , get a good workout, get some sleep and fuel as we prepare for the continual battle of misinformation, alternative facts and lies. We can’t all be taken down and regarded as believers of this propaganda machine!

My great-grandparents came to California in 1915 as working immigrants and my great grandmother had her children in 1918, died at a young age of 33 leaving an infant (my grandmother) without a mother. While the death certificate says “acute heart failure,” I know that modern medicine would have saved her! I am honored to practice modern medicine to save and prevent cardiometabolic conditions that affect many families.

As the only physician in my family I’ll be standing proud with all my Latino colleagues today —
Oct 1st is designated as National Latino Physician Day!!!! Hoping this raises awareness of the HUGE discrepancy we have to the growing population of Latinos in the U.S. that deserves someone who understands them linguistically and culturally.

I should not be a statistic as a mere 2.4% of all physicians in the US. Necesitamos más!

May we continue to empower others to join us🙏🏼

Friday Flashback of a week in San Diego’s movements.

Started out with a presentation and cooking demo with group hands-on activity for the wonderful healthcare professionals .

It’s and as a statistic—(im part of the 2.4% of Latina physicians in the U.S.), it’s important to recognize how important an interdisciplinary team is to a patients health journey. To close the health equity gaps, we must recognize how important collaborative healing is.

Solidified my deep gratitude of culture and heritage that made me who I am today with a chocolate abuelita truffle ball. These energy balls are so easy to make and can be a source of protein, fiber and love with memories of joy. We all need joy these days.

It was incredible to see the !! They are supporting local farmers to farm with and growing organic crops for those who need this nutrient dense food the most!

Teaching the next generation of culinary medicine physicians the importance of community engagement to combat misinformation ation while connecting to and for diverse faces in healthcare fuels my soul.

These days, we are fighting against “stuff” that wants to dim our light. But still…we show up!

Alive and well….and intend to keep it that way!

Protecting my community despite being remote now.

Also-I’m incredibly proud of the bravery by so many physicians, scientists, leaders at the CDC who were fired to stand up against scientific integrity and now Govt on the West Coast standing with science for the public’s health.

What people don’t know is that the CDC is NOT mandating vaccines on anyone, they just help facilitate the ultimate decision between a physician and patients. If I can’t even have that conversation, how can you even “do no harm”???

We are in some crazy times and I’m glad to be licensed along the West Coast Alliance states (CA, WA, OR)

The last few months in medicine 💊 and 🧬 science have been so disheartening.

I haven’t had any energy to post because the amount of time required to explain the damage and nuances in choosing (a non-scientist, non-medical, non-public health, white male who was privileged to have swayed a lot of good people with the 5% of truths he spewed out into a campaign only to leave them without the protections of ANY real public health threats) to lead the U.S. Health and Human Services Department to run the country’s Scientific & Medical leaders to the brink of collapse came true😓😭🥺😩!

If you do one thing this weekend…listen to this episode. This is NOT going to make america healthy! Stay alert on your health and prevention. You will be mislead if it comes from this administration.

The misinformation spewed out by this idiot is a lot!

Why do I believe food is medicine? 🌈 As a Culinary & Preventative Cardiometabolic physician, I see firsthand the incredible impact of nutrients like polyphenols. Evidence is mounting that these incredible plant compounds can positively influence your blood sugar control and may reduce your type 2 diabetes risk.

These amazing plant compounds offer bioactive properties independent of fiber and are currently in season. I found a few on my hike today and it reminded me to post about it as this is a frequent Rx I give to patients of mine.

Last month I presented at the conference for their Masters in Nutrition pre-conference course. My topic was on presenting the links between uptra-processed foods, cravings, gut health and obesity.

It was to a lot of Registered Dietitians and Bariatric Specialists and received great feedback with the final evaluations today rated very positive!
😅😅😅😅

Happy to have received emails on how programs plan to implement my suggestions too😃.

Rx of the week: practice pleasure!

We are allowed to feel moments of joy and pleasure. What is playful, helps us builds resiliency.

Our days may be filled with pain or sorrow and the antidote is pleasure.

2-3 minutes a day will make it a practice a day.

😍And yes-interpret that pleasure focus however you see fit. …Just make it intentional!
