At The Death Network, we believe it’s important to know and trust those we work alongside. And, we love working with LightBridge Hospice & Palliative Care

Along with the medical care they provide, LightBridge recognizes that hospice care also is for the spirit and the soul. That caring for the entire person-not just their medical needs- is so important.
At a recent open house we got to experience some of their Integrative Therapy offerings - it almost felt like a day at the spa!
From aromatherapy, Reiki and Acupuncture to pet therapy (both real and robotic!), music therapy and so much more! And…. If there’s a request for something they don’t currently offer, there is a special Simple Gifts program to fulfill those wishes 💜

As awesome as their offerings are, their team is even better! Thank you so much LightBridge for the work that you do 🥰

Great to see you 📸

Cremation rates continue to rise, but we really haven’t closed the gap about what to do when the urn is handed back.

Yesterday we hosted Beyond the Mantel, a conversation about authentic ways to honor cremated remains. Because for many, an urn on the mantle isn’t ideal forever. Finding a resting place that reflects the life that they lived, and the relationship that you had with them can also be so healing.

We loved hearing from and - not only do they provide a solution for that final resting place, they understand the importance of ritual and ceremony, and how that impacts how we grieve and integrate grief 💕

Thanks for guiding the conversation 🥰

About one in five Americans currently keep cremated remains of a loved one at home.
For some, the urn sits in a place of honor.
For many others, it rests quietly in a closet, an attic, or a garage.

Estimates suggest that 60–80% of cremated remains taken home eventually end up in these “in-between” spaces.
Not because families don’t care.
Often because they simply don’t know their options.

Finding a resting place that authentically reflects their life, and your relationship with them, can be a meaningful part of the grieving process. When remains linger in a state of “not yet decided,” it can quietly mirror a sense of incompletion. Not because you’ve done anything wrong, but because humans are wired for ritual and resolution. Thoughtful decisions around final placement often create a gentle sense of grounding - a feeling that something sacred has been tended to. Choosing with intention can transform ashes from something stored into something integrated, and that shift can support grief in a steady, healthy way.

We’re honored to welcome guest speakers Gillian Nye from Better Place Forests, who will share about conservation-based memorial forests, and Justin Crowe of Parting Stone, pioneers in transforming cremated remains into solidified stones that can be held, shared, and integrated into daily life.

Whether the urn has been on your mantel for months or decades, this workshop is not about pressure or urgency. It’s about education, possibility, and aligning final resting choices with the life that was lived.
We live in a time when cremation is common, but clear guidance is not. When shared rituals fade, uncertainty fills the gap.

Yesterday we hosted our first sound-bath in the cemetery event in San Diego - and it was so good! 💕
People gathered for a variety of different reasons, but the one common thread was that we acknowledged we are all grieving something. From the loss of a job to a relationship ending… there are a lot of everyday things that may cause us to grieve.
Even though our grief journeys are different & unique for each of us, coming together in creative ways can be very powerful.
Thank you for a wonderful afternoon in such a sacred space. Thank you .lea.waugh .endoflifedoula for a magical afternoon 💫

At The Death Network, you know we’re passionate about lifting the taboo around talking about death. Over the past year, we’ve loved connecting with so many of you at our Death Cafes and discussion groups across San Diego. This time, we’re excited to switch things up with a more casual gathering - an evening to mix, mingle, and share a drink with folks who appreciate some good, honest conversation about death and dying. Grab a drink, and come hang out with us for an evening of community, curiosity, and conversation - served with a side of good beer.

Death Over Drafts is a laid-back night out where good drinks meet real talk. It’s a chance to connect with like-minded folks who aren’t afraid to go deep - chatting about life, loss, and everything in between.

This month, we’re teaming up with our friends at Autonomy Health they’ll be on hand to chat about medical aid in dying (MAiD) and how this legal option is allowing folks to make end of life decisions with knowledge and agency.

Bring your curiosity and your questions, grab a drink and join the conversation 🍻

Celebrating international Women’s Day on a boat in San Diego doing a mock sea burial photo shoot with my death worker friends was never on my bucket list… until I became a death doula 😉

We are working on a sea burial article with *coming soon!
But in the meantime, I just have to share how grateful I am to be Doing Death Different with this ever-growing community in San Diego. 💕

We invite you to join us as we gather as simple humans in a sacred, natural setting to slow down and reflect. Nestled in the foothills of El Cajon, Singing Hills Memorial Park is a cemetery surrounded by rolling hills, quiet paths, and wide skies - an ideal place to reflect on life, death, and everything in between.

As the day softens toward evening, we’ll settle in for a soothing sound bath with Brent Honnerlaw - an experience rooted in ancient vibration and present-moment awareness. Not therapy. Not a support group. Just humans, in community, honoring the full cycle of being alive.

As the year draws to a close and the holidays approach, we invite you to pause… to gather in community… and to remember those who came before us.

Join Jenny of Yellow Trellis Counseling and Kara of The Death Network () for an evening of gentle remembrance and reflection. Together, we’ll honor the loved ones, ancestors, and guiding spirits who have shaped our lives.

There will be light snacks, warm cider, and space to share stories or simply sit in quiet remembrance. Whether you’re grieving a recent loss, reflecting on family history, or wishing to bring more mindfulness into this season, you are welcome here.

All are welcome... individuals, families, and friends. This will be a space of open-hearted remembrance and connection.

🕯️ Bring a photo or small object to add to our communal remembrance table if you wish.
