My favorite days are embryo transfer days.

I love being able to support my patient at her fertility clinic on one of the potentially most consequential days in her life. And patients really appreciate that extra support to help manage the emotions of the day.

One of the most common questions we get from new patients is whether we accept insurance.

Earlier in my career, I was actually in-network with several insurance plans and billed for acupuncture treatments. Over time, though, it became increasingly difficult to sustain.

Even when someone has fertility benefits and acupuncture benefits, it usually doesn’t mean there are benefits for fertility acupuncture. Most insurance plans only reimburse acupuncture for a small set of diagnosis codes, typically things like chronic low back pain, headaches, or nausea.
When visits are specifically for fertility, those claims are often denied unless they’re billed under a completely different diagnosis code.

Over time that created too many gray areas for me, and I ultimately decided it was best to step away from insurance billing.

At one point we also had tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid insurance claims from treatments that had already been provided.

Moving to a direct-pay model allows us to focus on what matters most- taking great care of our patients without the limitations of insurance rules.

Now we provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, and many patients use HSA or FSA funds for visits.

Note: I have my own personal feelings about insurance companies, but I don't feel like using profanity in this post. 😬

Fertility isn’t a single moment.

It’s not just ovulation day or embryo transfer day.

Fertility is an ongoing biological conversation between your brain, ovaries, uterus, immune system, and nervous system.

That’s one reason why fertility acupuncture is most effective when it’s part of consistent care — not just a single treatment on transfer day.

Research supports this.
One of the most informative studies on acupuncture and IVF outcomes, led by Lee Hullender Rubin and published in Reproductive BioMedicine Online, analyzed more than 1,200 IVF cycles and compared three groups:
• IVF alone
• IVF with acupuncture only on embryo transfer day
• IVF with ongoing, individualized acupuncture and TCM care

The outcomes were compelling:
✨ 61.3% live birth rate with comprehensive acupuncture care
✨ 50.8% live birth rate with transfer-day acupuncture only
✨ 48.2% live birth rate with IVF alone

When researchers adjusted for factors like age and ovarian reserve, the comprehensive acupuncture group had more than double the odds of live birth compared to IVF alone.

Patients in that group averaged 10–12 acupuncture treatments prior to the IVF cycle.

In other words:
One treatment can help.
But consistent, integrated care appears to make the biggest difference.

Many of our patients experienced miracle pregnancies and the births of babies that were long prayed for this past year. It was an incredible year for so many of our dear patients.

But some of our patients are still on their journeys, and the end of 2025 is a painful reminder of another missed milestone.

The end of one year and the beginning of another is truly just the end of one day and the start of another. December 31st into January 1st is not an indication of any kind of failure- it's just another 24 hour span of time.

We're here to remind you that you're simply in the middle of your own journey, and you can't compare someone else's timeline to your own.

It's okay to grieve what you don't yet have. But we're going to continue to support you in all of the ways our medicine can- body, mind, and spirit- until all of our patients have built their families.

Here's a glimpse of what 2025 looked like at Bloom Acupuncture & Fertility.

We are continually grateful for the opportunity to support our patients through this pivotal chapter of their lives. There's nothing like witnessing the transformation in our patients as they journey into and through pregnancy.

Getting there is rarely easy, but it's always worth it, and we thank our patients for choosing us as their integrative fertility partners.

As much as we want to celebrate these successes, we are also steadfast and focused on supporting our patients who are still on their journeys.

We won't stop until they have their babies in their arms, too.

As many of you already know, we will be increasing our rates slightly in 2026 to meet the increased rates we are paying our vendors.

Current patients may purchase packages of 5 or 10 visits at our 2025 rate to use into the new year. We are limiting this to 1 package per customer, and packages must be used within one year.

5 treatment package- $449
10 treatment package- $879

You may call, text, or email us before January 1, 2026 to purchase a package.
