Days 1 and 2 of radiation ✅

This trooper took it like a champ. He hesitates when the nurses need to use his port, but once we explain what they will do, he helps them out.

His port has been officially named “Cucú A A” 🤍 (don’t ask me why! 🤭)

The port was deaccessed for the weekend, which means 2 things: Jacob will have a good weekend without having to worry about the line hanging from his chest, however it will have to be accessed on Monday for treatment 🥹🙏🏻

Días 1 y 2 de radiación ✅

Este guerrero lo hizo como todo un campeón. Se pone dudoso cuando las enfermeras necesitan usar su puerto, pero una vez que le explicamos lo que harán, el mismo las ayuda.

Su puerto ha sido oficialmente llamado “Cucú A A” (no me pregunten porqué 🤭)

El puerto ha sido removido durante el fin, lo cual significa dos cosas: Jacob podrá disfrutar el fin de semana sin preocuparse de la línea en su pecho, pero el lunes tendrán que accesarlo de nuevo para continuar el tratamiento 🥹🙏🏻

Esperamos que todos tengan un hermoso fin de semana 🤍🙏🏻

Today is Jacob's lumbar puncture. He is out of the OR and sleeping 🙏

Today's appointment had been smooth, he came to the hospital with the promise of "no pokes" since he already has the port. The nurses had to deaccess/reaccess the port but they worked with the anesthesiologist to give anesthesia through the mask and then do the process when Jacob was already asleep.

Big shoutout to the HemOnc nurses working in the clinic; they are angels!

Now we just wait for Jacob to wake up, then we take him home 🤍

Hoy es la puncion lumbar de Jacob. Ya salio del quirofano y esta durmiendo 🙏

La cita de hoy ha estado tranquila, llegó al hospital con la promesa de "no pokes" ya que ya tiene el puerto. Las enfermeras tuvieron que desacceder/volver a acceder al puerto pero trabajaron con la anestesióloga para administrar la anestesia a través de la máscara y luego realizar el proceso cuando Jacob ya estaba dormido.

Un gran agradecimiento a las enfermeras de HemOnc que trabajan en la clínica; ¡son ángeles!

Ahora solo esperamos a que Jacob despierte y luego lo llevamos a casa 🤍

It’s a new week and we’re ready for it 💪🏻

Jacob’s port insertion is today. They port will be left accessed hoping it’ll cause less anxiety on Jacob when we go in for the lumbar puncture on Wednesday.

Oh my sweet boy 🥹

Today’s lumbar puncture had to be postponed and rescheduled for next week once Jacob has the port.

He had such traumatic event with the nurses at the radiation center that it was mission impossible to place and IV for the lumbar puncture. The nurses at Rady Children’s are so sweet and patient: they tried everything and more, but Jacob’s recollection of Monday’s event just did not allow him to cooperate in the process like he used to 😔

Monday Jacob will go in to get a port inserted, and once that’s done they will do the lumbar puncture on Wednesday before starting radiation on Thursday.

La punción lumbar programada para hoy tuvo que ser pospuesta y reagendada para la próxima semana ya que Jacob tenga el puerto.

Tuvo tan traumático evento el lunes en el centro de radiación que fue misión imposible el ponerle un IV hoy para la punción. Los enfermeras y enfermeras de Rady Children’s son tan lindos y pacientes; hicieron de todo y hasta más, pero el recuento de los daños del evento del lunes no le permitió a Jacob cooperar como antes lo hacía 😔

El lunes Jacob irá al hospital a que le pongan un puerto, después de eso el miércoles le harán la punción y el jueves iniciará radiación.

Por favor mantengan a Jacob en sus oraciones 🙏🏻🤍

Hello 💙

Our little guy had his simulation at the radiation center today. I won’t lie, it was a little traumatic since he is not as familiar with the nurses. After 2, almost 3, failed attempts to place an IV, we decided to wait and try again, unfortunately that pushed his appointment until almost 1:30 pm.

After the simulation, we took him out for lunch and rewarded him with some “Birthday cake pancakes” 🥰🎉

This week will be busy, so please pray extra hard for us:

- Tomorrow will be meeting with the surgeon to schedule the port insertion surgery.
- Wednesday he has a follow up with cardiology to make sure everything looks good with his heart.
- Thursday he has a lumbar puncture schedule, and we’re meeting with the oncology team to talk about future treatment plans.

Nuestro pequeñín tuvo su simulación en el centro de radiación hoy. No mentiré, fue un poco traumático ya que no está familiarizado con las enfermeras del centro. Después de 2, casi 3, intentos fallidos de ponerle la IV, decidimos esperar e intentar de nuevo, lamentablemente eso atrasó su cita hasta casi la 1:30 pm.

Después de la simulación, los llevamos a comer y premiamos con unos merecidos pancakes de “Birthday Cake” 🥰🎉

Esta semana será muy ocupada, por favor oren extra por nosotros:

- Mañana tenemos cita con la cirujana para hablar de la cirugía para ponerle el puerto y acordar una fecha.
- El miércoles tiene cita con cardiología para asegurarnos de que todo esté bien con su corazoncito.
- El jueves tiene una punción lumbar programada y nos reuniremos con el equipo de oncología para hablar del tratamiento.

Happy Thursday everyone!

It’s been 3 weeks since Jacob’s surgery and he’s doing amazing. He had a rehab assessment, physical therapy will continue to be one of our main priorities but he does not require special therapy for that 🙏🏻

When it comes to treatment, we still do not have information about chemotherapy options. We are focusing on getting radiation started and everything that come with that. Radiation is scheduled to start on the 19th, God willing! 🤍🙏🏻

A big thanks to everyone that has been reaching out to ask about Jacob 🥰🙏🏻

Hace 3 semanas de la cirugía de Jacob y está increíble. Tuvo una cita en rehabilitación, terapia física seguirá siendo uno de nuestras prioridades pero no requiere terapia especial para eso 🙏🏻

En cuanto a tratamiento de quimioterapia, aún no tenemos información sobre las opciones. Estamos enfocados en comenzar radiación y todo lo que eso conlleva. Radiación está programada para iniciar el 19 de marzo, conlleva el favor de Dios! 🤍🙏🏻

Muchísimas gracias a todos los que nos han contactado para preguntar por Jacob 🥰🙏🏻

Hello everyone 🤍

This little guy went to school for the first time after surgery 🙏🏻 he had been asking if he could go so today was the day, and he did great 🙌🏻🎉

We also got news from the radiation. We will be meeting with the doctors next week and the simulation (measurements) is scheduled for the 9th.

1st day of radiation will tentatively be on March 19th.

Please pray for us as we go through this first part of battle 🙏🏻

Este pequeño fue hoy a la escuela por primera vez después de la cirugía 🙏🏻 estuvo preguntando si podía ir y hoy fue el día, y lo hizo genial 🙌🏻🎉

También recibimos noticias de radiación. Tendremos la junta con los doctores la prima semana y la simulación (mediciones) está programada para el 9.

El primer día de radiación está tentativamente programado para el 19 de marzo.

Hello everyone,

Post-surgery update:
Jacob is doing great. He is basically back to his baseline. He still needs to keep it slow but neurosurgery has cleared him to go back to school in a week.

Treatment update:
There isn’t a big update yet. Yesterday Jacob’s oncologist talked about the first step, which will be focal radiation again to try and kill any microscopic cancer cell that could have been left behind.
When it comes to treatment, she talked about options, however we are still waiting for some results which will help us define the route we’re taking, so we still need to wait 🙏🏻

Actualización post-cirugía:
Jacob está muy bien. Ya casi está de regreso a la normalidad. Aún necesita andar con cuidado pero los neurocirujanos dieron luz verde para regresar a preescolar en una semana.

Actualización de tratamiento:
Aún no tenemos una gran actualización. Ayer la oncóloga de Jacob nos habló de los primeros pasos, que en este caso serán radiación focalizada nuevamente con el afán de acabar con cualquier célula que haya quedado del tumor.
En cuanto a tratamiento , nos habló de algunas opciones, pero aún estamos algunos resultados los cuales nos ayudarán a tomar decisiones en cuanto a que rumbo tomar, así que necesitamos esperar 🙏🏻

WE ARE HOME 🤍🙏🏻

Jacob improved so much after his surgery that we were able to bring him home earlier than expected. Of course, we still need to continue taking it easy, making sure the incision looks good and infection free, but oh what a great feeling it is to be home 🙏🏻

As of now our only focus is to keep Jacob strong and make sure he’s ready for the next steps.

We will be meeting with neurosurgery tomorrow to make sure everything’s good, and then with Jacob’s oncology team to talk about treatment options.

Please pray for us as we receive the news tomorrow 🙏🏻 and of course for Jacob’s full recovery 💛

ESTAMOS EN CASA 🤍🙏🏻

Jacob mejoró tanto después de su cirugía que nos fue posible regresar a casa antes de lo esperado. Claro que aún debemos continuar con los cuidados, llevarla tranquila asegurándonos de que la incisión esté bien y sin infección, oh pero que bien se siente estar en casa 🙏🏻

Por el momento nuestra única preocupación es aseugurarnos de que Jacob esté fuerte y listo para los siguientes pasos.

Nos reuniremos mañana con neurocirugia para ver que todo esté bien, y luego con el equipo de oncología para hablar sobre las opciones de tratamiento.

Hello everyone,

Jacob’s feeling so much better today. He is walking more, still a little off balanced but showing no signs of pain. His energy levels are going back up and he’s today he has spent more time out of bed than days prior.

He’s definitely a warrior and has improved tremendously. Not even a week after surgery and he’s rocking it 😎

We still haven’t heard anything from pathology, it might take another week or two for us to have the results and meet with the oncology team to discuss and assess his future treatment.
In the meantime we are getting him ready for the next fight 💪🏻 cancer does not know who it is messing with!

Please continue praying for Jacob and us 🤍🙏🏻

Jacob se ha sentido muchísimo mejor hoy. Ha estado caminando más, aún un poco tembloroso pero sin señales de dolor. Sus niveles de energía están volviendo a la normalidad y hoy ha pasado más tiempo fuera de cama que días anteriores.

Definitivamente es un guerrero y ha mejorado tremendamente. Ni siquiera ha pasado una semana de la cirugía y ya anda rockeando 😎

Aún no tenemos novedades de patología, podría tomar una semana o dos más para tener los resultados y reunirnos con el equipo de oncología para discutir y evaluar el tratamiento futuro.
Por el momento lo estamos preparando para la siguiente batalla 💪🏻 el cancer no supo con quién se metió!

Por favor continúen orando por Jacob y por nosotros 🤍🙏🏻

Good afternoon everyone 🤍

Today’s update:
Jacob ended up spiking a fever yesterday. He has a cough which is common after intubation, anyway swab testing was done, it all came back negative for common viruses. Blood test came back normal.

Thank God Jacob is doing SO much better today 🙏🏻 no fever today and his pain has decreased considerably.

He’s been talking, singing and overall less irritated. He took more steps today and has been moving his hand way more with less shaking.

We see so much improvement in so little time.
God is good 🙏🏻

Actualización del día de hoy:
Jacob tuvo fiebre anoche. Tiene una tos que es común después de intubación, se cualquier manera le hicieron pruebas de agentes virales, todos los resultados dieron negativo. Los análisis de sangre también regresaron normales.

Gracias a Dios Jacob está mucho mejor hoy 🙏🏻 no ha tenido fiebre desde ayer y su nivel de dolor a disminuido considerablemente.

Ha estado cantando, hablando y sobre todo menos irritado. Dio más pasos hoy y ha estado moviendo sus piernas y brazos más con menos temblor.

Hemos visto muchísimo progreso en muy poco tiempo.
Dios es bueno 🙏🏻
