If you’re 40+ and your body doesn’t do what it used to, here are 5 tips that can change your life today! (2 minute read)

1. Eat that protein! 🥩
As we age, we lose muscle and gain fat mass. The more muscle you have, the more energy you burn energy just existing. Lean meats like chicken or turkey, fish like salmon (to get those omega-3 fatty acids), eggs, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese are great sources. Make protein the star of the show on every plate and you will not only look and feel stronger, but you will stay stronger too.

2. Show us your guns!💪🏼
After the age of 30, women start losing their muscle mass by 3-8% per decade😨This decline in muscle not only weakens your strength and stability, but it significantly slows down the metabolism. Less muscle means fewer calories burned at rest and more fat storage, especially around the belly. That’s why strength training and building lean muscle isn’t just helpful in your 40s and beyond—it’s absolutely essential for fat loss, hormone balance, and overall health.

3. Get some shut eye!😴
As women enter perimenopause and beyond, changes in estrogen and progesterone levels can trigger insomnia, hot flashes, and night sweats, which makes it challenging to get 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep. But menopause is a time of change, but it can also be an opportunity to develop new habits that support better sleep. Regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and getting on a consistent sleep schedule can improve memory, focus, heart health, immune system and keep that pesky hunger hormone away!

4. Get that H20 💦
As we age, our hormones start to fluctuate, metabolism slows down, kidney function declines and joints can start to ache. Doing something as simple as drinking enough water will boost your metabolism which can help with fat loss, improve skin elasticity so you can glow, lubricate joints so you can move better, help your kidneys remove waste and lower your risk for kidney stones and boost your energy levels to keep you sharp and focused.

5. Chill babe! 🧘🏼‍♀️I cannot stress enough how important it is to reduce stress any way possible. Stress can cause unwanted weight gain, increase menopausal symptoms, disrupt sleep, develop mood disorders like anxiety, digestive problems and raise your blood pressure putting you at risk for cardiovascular disease.
To help reduce stress try doing things like changing your mindset (appreciating what you CAN do vs. not), relaxation techniques like deep breathing or a yoga class, eating a balanced diet with regular physical activity, adequate sleep, schedule time with friends or to enjoy a hobby, set boundaries, offload tasks and care for yourself like you do for others. Yes, sometimes easier said than done but it doesn’t need to happen overnight. Just stay consistent with it and chip away at the stress. You can do this girl!

James Albright, CPT, Nutritional Coach

With so many fads, extreme diets and quick fixes, it’s tempting to try it all. As you know, the results are short lived and often set you back even further. Let us show you how to get results and keep them. Every body is different and your program should be too. Are you finally ready to make that change? We are ready for you.

James was born and raised in San Jose, CA. As a husband and a father of 3 children, he truly understands the importance of family, health and time. As a youth, he was an extremely active athlete, but like many of us, he let go of his health over time and started to accept his new lifestyle. In 2009, James lost his mother to cardiovascular disease and the loss devastated him. From that day on, he committed to making a lifestyle change and made sure everyone he loved would too. He’s always had a passion for helping others and fitness became his mission. Not only did he become a personal trainer, but he became one that equally focuses on nutrition and changing lives ever since.

James' wife, Brandy, has been a through this journey with him and has made some significant improvements to her health too. She always loved dance, but gave it up after college and like many of us, she started to accept her new lifestyle. Since then, she has lost just under 40 pounds and lowered her body fat by 14%. Brandy, like many is a busy mom, but she didn’t have to give up her love for dance. Since 2013, she has been a dance fitness instructor and is now a Certified Personal Trainer alongside her husband, James.

We all have a purpose in this world and we have found ours. We are committed to your results, your health and we are in it for the long run. It’s hard to get started when you don’t know where to start. If you are ready, we will show you the way.
