640 souls evacuated from Kabul airport yesterday, on a US Air Force cargo jet C-17.

640 left, several died trying to escape and thousands remain.

The US has an obligation to get as many of our allies out as possible and swiftly.

And we have a moral obligation to welcome these refugees with open arms and deliver in our promises.

No One Left Behind, an nonprofit organization is working to secure chartered flights and is the key organization helping to and Afghans in the Special Immigration Visa Process.

International Refugee Assistance Project is providing legal resources for Afghan refugees, including support for the SIV process.
Please donate what you can towards their efforts.

It’s the least we can do after 20 years of sacrifice, bloodshed and billions of dollars spend on this senseless war.

Today we did something special. Brenton Diaz, a colleague of mine from Canada and I, did a webinar, hosted by , where we discussed somatic treatment options for working with refugees and those who have experienced the trauma of forced migration.

You all know this population is near and dear to my heart. I was excited to teach this course. It felt important. It felt timely.

But what thrilled me the most, is how much interest there was from our community. (We broke some registration records, but that’s neither here nor there…).

I have said many times, and I will say it again: it’s an honor to do this job! It’s an honor and a privilege to show up everyday and walk the healing path with the brave souls I work with. And it is thrilling to do so in a community of likeminded, kindhearted, dedicated healers and practitioners!

Thanks to all who joined us live from all around the world. Thank you for all the work you do in your own communities. I am forever grateful!

50 trips around the sun! Life continues to surprise and challenge me, mostly in good ways these days. I’m not sure what the big 5-0 means to me yet. I just know I’m lucky to be alive. Lucky to have the love and support of family and friends. Lucky to be loved well every day! I want my 50s to be about living life more fully, spending time with loved ones, being of service and pausing more often to listen to my body. I want this “3rd act” to have time and space to percolate, to arise organically and on its own terms.
More than ever, I am closer in touch with the notion that we only have one life to live and we best live it well. The collective loss of the last year crystallized this even more. Well I intend to do just that in the coming years.
Cheers, my friends. I hope our paths cross soon!

Today was one of those hard work days. Part of my job as a trauma therapist, is to sit and hold space for my clients’ activation as they navigate current triggers to past trauma. Today felt difficult because I felt the rage too.
It’s a fine balance between noticing and making room for the range or healthy aggression and not giving in to the helplessness that can sometimes follow.
All I know is that my clients are incredibly courageous and resilient and it is my life’s honor to journey with them through the depths of their experience and trauma renegotiation.

To all survivors, please be gentle with yourself tonight. Please be kind to yourself and avoid the news. Make sure you get some sleep know that I’m here, rooting for you!!

Truth be told, slowing down doesn’t come easy for me. But it sure is a whole lot easier when Mother Nature lends a hand. The beauty we witnessed on this trip took our breaths away. Highway 1 through Big sure, up to Carmel and Pebble Beach... I kept thanking the heavens for the opportunity to see it all, kept reminding myself to breathe deeply, to walk slowly, to take it all in... and now back home, I keep closing my eyes and imagining myself in the Redwoods, imagining driving along the ocean and feeling the cool breeze. I notice a deep eye move through my body, notice my shoulders letting dow, my face softening...
Until we meet again. ❤️🦋🌊✨❤️

Hello!

My name is Mahshid. I’m a wife, a mother, a business owner and an aspiring writer. I carry a license as a marriage and family therapist and I have my own private practice. I also practice as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, helping survivors of trauma heal from their past. The plight of the refugee and immigrant families is near and dear to my heart and I feel passionate about my work with this population. I was born in Iran and raised in Germany, and I call San Diego “home” these days.

I first began writing as a way to process my own traumatic history of immigration but, soon discovered the power of sharing my stories with others. I am currently working on my memoir. The vision for my artistic and professional work is to dismantle the culture of fear and intolerance through storytelling and compassionate connections and promote healing and engagement through nervous system regulation.
