Sticks may seem harmless, but they can actually pose a risk to dogs. 🐶🪵Chewing on sticks can lead to splinters in the mouth, injuries to the gums, choking, and even pieces getting stuck in the throat or digestive tract. Some dogs may also injure their teeth from biting down on hard wood. If your dog loves to chew or carry sticks outside, it’s a good idea to redirect them to safer alternatives like durable chew toys or pet-safe fetch toys.

If your pet has trouble chewing, is pawing at the mouth, drooling more than usual, or seems painful after playing with a stick, it’s best to have them checked. Call (858) 459-1516 if you’re concerned.

It only takes one mosquito bite to transmit heartworm disease. 🦟 Heartworms live in the heart and lungs and can cause serious, potentially life-threatening damage often before noticeable symptoms appear.

The good news: heartworm disease is preventable with regular medication. Protect your pet year-round and stay ahead of the risk. Call (858) 459-1516 to learn more about prevention options.

Did you know cats don’t just smell — they actually “taste” scents? 👃🐱
They use a special organ (the vomeronasal or Jacobson’s organ) and the Flehmen response (that funny face) to learn about food, territory, and friends. Scent is a huge part of how cats explore and communicate.

Even a quick outdoor adventure can expose an indoor cat to parasites, injuries, or infections. If your cat goes outside occasionally, make sure you’re protecting them with:

• Up-to-date vaccinations
• Annual wellness exams
• Microchip + visible ID tag
• Year-round parasite prevention (fleas, ticks and yes, cats can get heartworm)
• Supervised outings (harnesses or a secure yard) and a quick check for ticks/wounds after time outside

Fleas and ticks can be active in mild weather and cause more than itchy skin, they can lead to allergic dermatitis, secondary infections, and transmit serious diseases. The most effective protection is a year-round plan that’s tailored to your pet’s lifestyle and local risks.

Not sure what’s right for your dog or cat? Call (858) 459-1516 to schedule a quick consultation, we’ll help you choose safe, effective parasite prevention.

An adult flea can lay up to 2,000 eggs in just 3–6 weeks which is why infestations spread so quickly. Regular parasite prevention and treating the environment stop the cycle before it starts.
Call (858) 459-1516 to find the right flea preventative for your pet.

🌿 Cat owners, check your houseplants!

Many common plants found in homes can be toxic to cats if chewed or eaten. Curious kitties love to explore, and even a small nibble of certain plants (like lilies, pothos, or snake plants) can cause serious health problems. If you think your cat may have ingested a harmful plant, contact poison control right away.

Questions about plant safety or your cat’s health? Call (858) 459-1516. 🐾🌱
