Lions, tigers and bears. Oh my!

What an unforgettable adventure for our Silvergate Rancho Bernardo residents!

During the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's free admission month for seniors, our residents enjoyed a wonderful day exploring the incredible San Diego Zoo Safari Park. From majestic wildlife to beautiful open habitats, there was so much to see and experience!

The highlight of the day? A brave duo of two fabulous ladies took their adventure to new heights - ascending in the park's hot air balloon for a breathtaking bird's-eye view of the grounds!

To make the day more special, Executive Chef Brittany Contreras and her amazing Culinary Services team prepared delicious boxed lunches for everyone in attendance, ensuring residents stayed fueled and ready for fun throughout the day.

It was a perfect combination of fresh air, adventure and great food; just another example of the vibrant lifestyle our residents enjoy every day!

Love was truly in the air this Valentine's Day at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo Memory Suites! We celebrated the joy of togetherness and the comfort of being surrounded by those who care for our residents. Our community was filled with love, sweet smiles and warm hugs shared between families, caregivers and residents. Families joined their loved ones not only to celebrate the holiday, but also to take part in a special Valentine's photoshoot. These photos are more than keepsakes, they are reflections of connection, legacy, and the enduring power of love.

At Silvergate, we see every day how powerful presence can be. A familiar face, a warm embrace, a shared laugh - these are the moments that matter most. While memories may change, the feeling of love remains constant.

Thank you to all the families and staff who participated and helped make the day so special. Your love is what makes our community feel like home.

Gong Xi Fa Cai! Wishing you abundance in the year of the horse!

Silvergate Rancho Bernardo residents celebrated the Lunar New Year with a decadent Chinese Buffet specially curated by Executive Chef Brittany Contreras and her Culinary & Dining Services Team. Whilst enjoying the delicious food, the residents watched a riveting performance by the Southern Sea Dragon & Lion Dance group, who are ranked 3rd nationally among all the Dragon Dance groups. Residents fed the Dragons red envelopes to bring good fortune for the next year.

May your spirit feel light and your wallet feel heavy in the new year!

Residents from SRB enjoyed a lovely day exploring the Cabrillo National Monument. Located in San Diego, the monument celebrates the landing of explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542 and offers stunning views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Following their trip to the Cabrillo National Monument, the attendees stopped in at the Lazy Dog Restaurant for some scrumptious food and refreshing drinks. From historic landmarks to coastal wildlife, fresh ocean air and tasty entrees, it was a memorable outing filled with learning, beautiful scenery and great company!

This past week we celebrated the incredible talent of one of our long time residents, Sally Hasson! She joined us in 2020 and in 2021 we held a talent exhibition where she first showed off her quilting expertise. There is no end to the talent of our residents! We were extremely excited when Sally agreed to show off her quilts for our residents again in a Quilt Show!

Sally had such an amazing display of quilts and we later in the show learned that these were only a small fraction of what she's made throughout the 30 years of her quilting career! A few lucky individuals even had the chance to purchase a quilt or two!

We'd like to thank Sally and her wonderful family for helping this event come together and be such a success.

What an incredible year it has been! Founded just one year ago by three dedicated individuals- Trixie Prince, Activity Director at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo; Johnathan Burgi, Director of Client Services and Veteran Advocate of A Pure Heart Placement & Senior Services; and Paul Comeau, Resident Veteran Ambassador at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo- the club has rapidly grown and transformed into a vibrant community for veterans. The club was initially envisioned as an informational group dedicated to providing veterans with essential services and resources/Legacy Bios. Trixie, Johnathan and Paul worked tirelessly to lay the groundwork for this initiative. Their goal was to create a space where veterans could connect, share experiences and access valuable information.

Over the past year, the club has evolved beyond its initial purpose to a fully functional social services hub, offering much more than information. Today, the club organizes a variety of activities that cater to the interests and needs of its members. One of the highlights are the guest speaker events from the USS Midway Museum who deliver captivating talks on military history and other relevant topics. These sessions provide members with a chance to learn and engage in discussions about their shared experiences. In addition to these talks, the club occasionally organizes outings to different military sites and museums. The January session featured Fred Shatsky, Navy Veteran & USS Midway Docent speaking about Operation Frequent Wind, which was the final military operation of the Vietnam War (April 1975) featuring the USS Midway. We were also joined by Karen Sixt, Silvergate resident, who shared a personal tribute honoring her father, who served aboard the USS Oklahoma during the Pearl Harbor attack (1941) and brought in a US Dollar bill that survived Pearl Harbor to show to the group — a powerful, tangible piece of history.

As the club celebrates its first anniversary, the founders and members look forward to continuing their journey of growth and community building. The club remains committed to its mission of supporting and empowering veterans, ensuring they have a place to thrive and connect with others who share similar experiences. As they embark on another year, there's no doubt that "A Pure Heart Veteran's Club" will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our veterans, honoring their service and fostering a sense of belonging.

A big thank you to all the staff that helped to make this event as amazing as it was. All their efforts are greatly appreciated and we couldn't thank them enough for all they do.

Jill Hawkins, Vice Chair of Parade Operations Committee (daughter of resident JoAnn Hawkins), joined us this past Monday for a presentation on the Tournament of Roses Parade held every year on New Years Day. Her phenomenal presentation went over all the intricate details of the floats, the entertainment and timing to make the parade go off without a hitch!

Not only did our residents learn what all Jill has to juggle and what all goes into the parade, some were lucky enough to win some raffle prizes to commemorate the experience.

Memory Suites Residents were visited by the Art Without Limits Club from Rancho Bernardo High School. Hana Takayanagi, club president, wanted to create a way to showcase the creativity of her fellow students, especially students with special needs. Often their artwork is not seen beyond their classroom and this club is dedicated to creating a space for students to express themselves creatively and sharing it throughout the community.

This wonderful group brought in beautiful handmade cards for our Memory Suites Residents, just in time for Christmas! The club's goal is to have their artwork reach more people, so they can show the community the beauty and value of the special needs students' artwork.

With the right tools, encouragement and teamwork, every student can create something amazing - because creativity should have no limits.

A very special Santa paid a visit to our Memory Suites Residents!
Miriam Lopez, one of our Memory Suites Activity Assistants, dressed up in a Santa blow-up costume to spread holiday cheer and laughter during the Memory Suites Resident Holiday Party!

She even did the Christmas boogie to live music by Taylor Bassett and posed with residents for sweet photos to send to their families.

May your Holiday Season be full of joy and laughter!

Happy Hannukah from Silvergate Rancho Bernardo!

Residents congregated in the lobby for the Menorah Lighting this week and several residents took turns leading the ceremony for the group. Each day they led with blessings, followed by the candle lighting and a discussion on the day's topic.

Our Residents enjoyed a walk through an immaculate & artistically decorated Christmas filled house. Every surface of the house either had a Christmas tree or other Christmas decoration! Each of the 164 trees has a theme and all of them beautiful in their own way.

Thank you Rachel Perez for inviting us into your home and giving us an outstanding tour!

We Do Things at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo! Stay tuned for our next adventure!
