What an incredible year it has been! Founded just one year ago by three dedicated individuals- Trixie Prince, Activity Director at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo; Johnathan Burgi, Director of Client Services and Veteran Advocate of A Pure Heart Placement & Senior Services; and Paul Comeau, Resident Veteran Ambassador at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo- the club has rapidly grown and transformed into a vibrant community for veterans. The club was initially envisioned as an informational group dedicated to providing veterans with essential services and resources/Legacy Bios. Trixie, Johnathan and Paul worked tirelessly to lay the groundwork for this initiative. Their goal was to create a space where veterans could connect, share experiences and access valuable information.
Over the past year, the club has evolved beyond its initial purpose to a fully functional social services hub, offering much more than information. Today, the club organizes a variety of activities that cater to the interests and needs of its members. One of the highlights are the guest speaker events from the USS Midway Museum who deliver captivating talks on military history and other relevant topics. These sessions provide members with a chance to learn and engage in discussions about their shared experiences. In addition to these talks, the club occasionally organizes outings to different military sites and museums. The January session featured Fred Shatsky, Navy Veteran & USS Midway Docent speaking about Operation Frequent Wind, which was the final military operation of the Vietnam War (April 1975) featuring the USS Midway. We were also joined by Karen Sixt, Silvergate resident, who shared a personal tribute honoring her father, who served aboard the USS Oklahoma during the Pearl Harbor attack (1941) and brought in a US Dollar bill that survived Pearl Harbor to show to the group — a powerful, tangible piece of history.
As the club celebrates its first anniversary, the founders and members look forward to continuing their journey of growth and community building. The club remains committed to its mission of supporting and empowering veterans, ensuring they have a place to thrive and connect with others who share similar experiences. As they embark on another year, there's no doubt that "A Pure Heart Veteran's Club" will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our veterans, honoring their service and fostering a sense of belonging.
