"Nursing Mother's Neck" refers to a repetitive stress, sprain/strain injury and postural imbalance of the neck, upper back and mid back. This is most commonly caused by the perpetual task of holding, feeding and looking down at your sweet baby.

Signs & Symptoms of Nursing Mothers Neck
- Pain, burning, numbness and tingling in the neck, upper back and shoulder blade area.
- General shoulder pain and tightness

Digestion is how you move and utilize food throughout your body; it allows you to keep valuable nutrients and release unnecessary waste.

When you're stressed, however, your digestion slows or stops and you're left feeling sluggish, tired, unwell and less than your best. By removing unwanted interference from your nervous system and allowing your body to better adapt to stress, you can help optimize your body's functions-digestion included.

There are three types of exercise that work to benefit heart health. Choose the option that suits you best.

1. Aerobic Exercise
This type of exercise improves circulation, which results in lowered blood pressure and heart rate. Examples include brisk walking, running, swimming, cycling, tennis, dancing etc. Aim for 150 minutes per week - which works out to 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

2. Resistance Training
This type of exercise influences body composition by reducing body fat and creating leaner muscle mass. Examples include using free weights/weight machines, resistance band exercises and body weight exercises such as push-ups, squats, planks, etc. Aim for 2 non-consecutive days of resistance training per week.

3. Stretching
This type of exercise does not directly affect your heart health but it improves your neuromusculoskeletal health - meaning when you are more flexible, you are free from joint pain, cramping and other muscle issues. Examples of stretching include Yoga, Tai Chi and general stretching. Aim to work on flexibility every day, especially before and after other exercises.

The bottom line is to do your best to move your body every single day. When starting a new exercise program, it is best to start out slow to prevent any injuries or stress to the body. Remember that when you implement any nutritional or exercise recommendations into your life, that consistency is key and to make lifestyle changes that are sustainable to you long term.

TACKLING PARENT STRESS! 3 Keys 🔑 to Preventing Adrenal Fatigue and Burnout

You can't pour from an empty cup! 🥛 As parents, we have a lot on our plate and a lot more is always asked of us. But what if you don't feel like you are able to get enough sleep, you feel constantly worn out by 4pm and that drain has put your mood in a bad spot... 😖 to put it nicely.

While there is no one answer and the common answer of more sleep, eat better and exercise... We want to share 3 easy solutions that don't take a ton of time and effort that you can use as a "life hack" to help you get some of the high energy you need - even when we know we can't stop.

1️⃣ Avoid AFTERNOON caffeine. ☕️
Don't hate us for this - we aren't asking you to give up your morning coffee, but here is the truth to it - even if you can still get to sleep quickly at night, the quality of your sleep is affected by caffeine within 8 hours of bedtime. Your brain 🧠 and nervous system won't shut down and will remain working even when you are asleep.

2️⃣ Limit alcohol and eating close to bedtime (2-3 hours prior)
Same premise as caffeine, when you eat or drink alcohol, 🍻 your liver has to metabolize it. Even if you fall asleep, your metabolic and digestive system are still working hard, when your body shouldn't be. This has a chain reaction with your hormones too, not allowing the body to fully activate melatonin and get you naturally into that deeper sleep pattern your body requires.

3️⃣ Do things that turn the Parasympathetic system on. The parasympathetic system in the brain tells the body to rest, relax, digest, activate immune function and refuel all systems. 😴Chiropractic adjustments are shown to do this immediately and consistent care allows the body to shift between the stress and relax side of the nervous system with ease.
