🎥🌴 PALM TALKS Presents: A Hidden Chapter of WWII History

A big thank you to our resident Steve for sharing an eye-opening and deeply personal Palm Talk that brought history to life at Wesley Palms. 💬📽️

Residents and guests gathered for a special screening of a powerful documentary from the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, exploring Operation K — a little-known Japanese attack on March 4, 1942, that came dangerously close to claiming the life of someone who would one day call Wesley Palms home. 🇺🇸🕊️

Steve’s presentation gave us a rare look at a forgotten moment in WWII history, made even more impactful through its personal connection and emotional storytelling.

It was an unforgettable afternoon of discovery, reflection, and community learning. Thank you, Steve, for sharing this incredible piece of history with us! 🙏🎖️

Día de los Mu***os – A Celebration of Memory and Love 🧡
Each year from October 31 to November 2, many people in Mexico and across Latin America celebrate Día de los Mu***os, or the Day of the Dead. Far from being a somber occasion, this beautiful tradition honors loved ones who have passed away with color, music, and remembrance.

Here at our community team members created this beautiful ofrenda, lovingly decorated with photos, candles, flowers (especially marigolds), colorful papel picados ("perforated paper"), favorite foods, and favorite belongings of those who are remembered. Calaveras, or decorative skulls often made of sugar or clay, symbolize both mortality and the joy of life, reminding us to smile even as we remember.

Our group ofrenda will be on display in the first floor Memorial Corner from October 30 through November 4.

🫖👒 A Delightful Afternoon at Wesley Palms!

Our residents recently enjoyed a lovely High Tea — complete with their favorite hats, tasty tea sandwiches, sweet desserts, and, of course, their favorite brews! 🍰☕️🎩

It was a beautiful afternoon of elegance, conversation, and community as we gathered to share laughter, stories, and a few extra cups of tea. 🫖💬💕

From floral fascinators to classic sunhats, our residents looked fabulous as they sipped and savored in style.

💻✨ Big thanks to Alejandro, our amazing Resident Tech Support Assistant, for today’s session: “What Email Service Is Right for Me?” 📧👏

As part of our Front Porch family, Wesley Palms reinvests the profits back into the community — creating new roles like Alejandro’s! 🙌 Working five days a week, his sole role is to help residents with all things tech — from smart TVs 📺 to cell phones 📱, emails 💌, computers 💻, and printers 🖨️.

He also puts on wonderful tech talks to educate residents and keep everyone up to date on the latest technology trends! 💡🎤

Another great example of how being a not-for-profit community means giving back — not cashing out. 💙

We lovingly call them our Wesley Paws, and they bring joy, companionship, and comfort to our residents every single day. With 35 acres of walkable, pet-friendly grounds here in beautiful San Diego, it’s the perfect setting for wagging tails, sunny strolls, and happy hearts. 🌴🐶🐾

A huge THANK YOU to Sarah Kearns and her amazing Puddle Jumpers team — our on-site Dog Walker Concierge service. Sarah and her team are on campus 7 days a week, making sure our Wesley Paws are cared for with love and attention. 🐕‍🦺💼

But she’s so much more than a dog walker — Sarah is a true pet concierge. She connects with residents, understands their pet’s unique needs, and helps find thoughtful solutions — whether it’s daily walks, vet visits, grooming, or just friendly advice. 🩺✂️🐾

Her compassionate, personalized approach supports our pets while helping us support our residents. We’re so grateful to have her as part of our extended Wesley Palms family. 💚

We were honored to welcome Dr. Fang Yu, author and professor, to lead a fascinating session on The Buddha: His Life and Teachings as part of our World Religions series in Woodbury Hall.

Residents explored the life journey of Siddhartha Gautama, the core principles of Buddhism, and the enduring impact of his teachings on cultures and philosophies around the world. 🌏🧘‍♂️

It was a thought-provoking and enriching afternoon, filled with deep reflection, engaging discussion, and meaningful learning. Thank you, Dr. Yu, for sharing your wisdom and insight with our community!

We were thrilled to feature our very own resident, Don Norman — internationally renowned cognitive scientist, design theorist, and author — who graciously led a compelling discussion on everyday design and how it influences every aspect of our lives. 🧠💡 From morning routines to daily decisions, Don’s insights offered a fresh perspective on the world around us. 🌍✨

The event was well-attended and a perfect reflection of the warm, welcoming atmosphere that defines life at Wesley Palms. Guests enjoyed a lively Q&A session, a friendly meet & greet reception with complimentary drinks and appetizers, and tours of our scenic campus with breathtaking coastal views of San Diego. 🌊☀️

We wrapped up the season in the best way possible — with an end-of-summer BBQ in our Summer House Memory Care neighborhood at Wesley Palms! 💛

Residents, their families and loved ones, and our dedicated staff came together for an afternoon of good food, great company, and sunny San Diego skies. 🌞🌴

👨‍🍳 A special shoutout to our amazing Dining Room Manager, Muha, who was on grill duty — flipping burgers and hot dogs like a pro and keeping everyone well-fed and smiling! 🍔🌭🔥

📸 Our Photo Booth added a fun twist to the day — with laughter, silly props, and memories captured with those who matter most.

Thank you to everyone who made this a warm, joyful gathering. It’s moments like these that highlight the love, connection, and community spirit that make Summer House so special. 💕

Here at Wesley Palms in , every resident is a valued member of the Wesley Palms Resident Council — a vibrant and essential part of our senior living community. 🌴💙

We’re excited to share that we had a great turnout at our recent quarterly Resident Council meeting! 🙌✨ It’s always inspiring to see so many residents come together to stay informed, share ideas, and actively participate in shaping life at Wesley Palms.

✨ What is the Resident Council?
All residents are automatically members! The Council plays a vital role in:
✅ Sponsoring activities for both residents and staff
✅ Providing feedback and insight to the Executive Director
✅ Offering opportunities to get involved through various committees

Our Executive Board works closely with the Executive Director to ensure residents’ voices are heard and their ideas are implemented. The President of the Club meets regularly with leadership to promote collaboration and open communication. 🤝📋
