The wildfires impacting Los Angeles have brought unimaginable challenges and heartache to so many in our community. At Oasis Counseling Group, our hearts go out to everyone affected, and we want to help you navigate through this difficult time.

Many of our San Diego community members have friends and family in the
Los Angeles area. Additionally, many of our therapists received their education in Pasadena at Fuller Theological Seminary’s Psychology Department. The Altadena community holds a special place in our hearts, and we are deeply committed to supporting those impacted by these events.
To support those directly impacted by the wildfires, we are offering free therapy sessions for individuals seeking to process their experiences. Whether you need a safe space to share your story, manage stress, or cope with loss, our therapists are here for you.

What We’re Providing:
- Free therapy sessions for those affected by the wildfires.
- Virtual sessions to ensure accessibility and safety.
- A compassionate space to begin healing.

We have limited spots available, so we encourage you to reach out as soon as possible.

If you or someone you know could benefit from these sessions, please contact Janneke Last at 619-738-2594 to be paired with a therapist and set up the initial appointment.

With heartfelt compassion,
Team at Oasis Counseling Group.

A simple “hello” is usually followed by “how are you” or “how have you been” – and most of the time the answer is “good” or “fine.” But what if you’re struggling? Here are some things you can say when you’re not okay.

I’m Not Fine

I’m actually going through some stuff.
Thanks for asking. _____ has been stressing me out lately.
I’m in my feels / I’ve got all the feels.
I’m having a day / It’s been one of those days, well, weeks really.
I’m feeling some kind of way.
Ugh. I can’t stop thinking about _____.
Not so great, to be honest.
On the struggle bus.
Feeling rough.
Today is not my day.
I Want To Talk About It

Do you want to get coffee / lunch / dinner and chat later?
Did you hear about _____ (something from the news that’s bothering you)?
I’d love to get your advice about something.
Can I text you?
Want to take a walk with me?
I need to vent.
Do you have time to listen?
I’m having some issues with _____. Do you have time to talk?
Can I bounce some thoughts off you?
Have you ever felt like _____ (how you’re feeling)?

May is mental health awareness month.
Being able to maintain good mental health is
essential to each and every individual’s overall
health and well-being. Mental health conditions
are common, manageable, and treatable.

One in 5 people will experience a mental health
condition in any given year, and everyone faces
challenges in life that can impact their mental
health.

About half of Americans will meet the criteria
for a diagnosable mental health condition
sometime in their lives, with symptoms starting
by age 14 for the majority of people.

It is never too soon to seek treatment for your
mental health. Getting help early saves lives.

Don’t forget to also take care of your mental and physical health today!

- Self compassion: Speak kindly to yourself, as you would to a friend. Strong self-compassion can set the stage for better health, relationships, and general well-being. So far, research has revealed a number of benefits of self-compassion. Lower levels of anxiety and depression have been observed in people with higher self-compassion.

- Connect with others: Connecting with others is more important than you might think. Social connection can lower anxiety and depression, help us regulate our emotions, lead to higher self-esteem and empathy, and actually improve our immune systems. Don’t neglect your need to connect.

- Move your body: Physical activity is one of the best things you can do to improve your mental health. Whatever works for your body’s ability. A walk, chair exercises, a gym visit or a pick up basketball game. Getting enough physical activity can immediately reduce feelings of anxiety and help you sleep better. Over the long-term, it can reduce the risk of depression. Regular physical activity can keep your thinking, learning, and judgment skills sharp and delay the decline of these skills as you age.

Have a great day!

We continue to add Group Therapy options to our practice. We are excited to announce that Greg Piken, LMFT will offer two groups in the spring.
The first one we love to tell you about is “Self-Acceptance for Gay, Bisexual, and Q***r men”.
It will be offered for 8 consecutive weeks starting May 2nd.

This therapy group offers a safe and inclusive space for gay, bisexual, q***r, and questioning adult men (21+) who have ever wondered if they could truly be accepted and embraced for who they really are. We’ll foster a judgement-free space to process fears unique to GBQ men, and support one another to navigate challenges such as coming out, complicated family dynamics, spirituality and faith, relationship and sexual desires, and mental wellness. As we overcome internalized shame through shared connection in a supportive community, we’ll find the confidence we need to live fulfilling lives as our truest selves.

When is it?
Starting on Thursday, May 2, we’ll meet weekly on Thursday evenings from 5:00pm- 6:30pm for a total of 8 weeks.

Where is it? 2635 Camino Del Rio S; Unit 109 (in the Mission Valley neighborhood of San Diego)

How much does it cost? $60 per session (Total of $480 for 8 weeks)
