Dine out deliciously for healthy kids with SchooLicious!, a unique partnership between Healthy Dining, participating local restaurants and your local schools. is a public health research program funded by the National Institutes of Health. The purpose of the program is to create a year-round restaurant-focused fundraiser that specifically supports wellness programs at elementary schools. Poway Unified and San Marcos Unified Elementary schools are taking the lead as the first communities in the U.S. to partner with local restaurants to promote school wellness programs. Participating restaurants pay a monthly fee to be in the SchooLicious! All of these fees go to the program to be shared by the school districts, evenly amongst all elementary schools for wellness programs, such as PE and playground equipment and school gardens, etc. boasts a new smartphone app employing cutting-edge beacon technology. This technology enables parents and community residents to easily find participating restaurants and their Healthy Dining and Kids LiveWell-approved menu choices as well as provides the tracking of the restaurant visits correlating to the financial contributions by the restaurants. Students are eating healthy and getting active; schools get funding for their health and wellness programs, (which are often otherwise underfunded); restaurants give back to the community; and everyone who eats at participating restaurants and chooses healthy foods is supporting kids’ wellness at the same time.
