Tips from a Speech-Language Pathologist:

One BIG CLUE that your toddler needs speech therapy is that they are not making many consonant sounds. They should be able to produce back of the mouth sounds like k, g, and other throaty sounds by 6 months, and b, p, m by about 10 months.

If they are not, please contact me for an evaluation, or another pediatric speech pathologist in your area.

Tips from a Speech-Language Pathologist:
It may not be what you expect, but it’s true that the phrases you use when talking to your toddlers and children will directly affect how they understand you when they’re younger than 10 years old.

You might think they’re “not listening on purpose,” but sometimes they really just don’t understand the concept because they’re too young to have learned it.

As adults, we can forget that we had to learn talking and all the concepts that go with it, right?! Especially, when we’re used to talking with other adults! That’s why I always say, simplify, simplify, simplify. Or, you can think of the acronym for KISS. 😆

The brain development (of typical children) doesn’t understand conditional if-then or waiting for future gains/ losses until After about 10 years old.
