As this year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on everything it held, especially the lives that found their way into our home.Fostering is never just “temporary.” It’s late nights, vet visits, learning new routines, vet visits, and opening your heart knowing the goodbye will eventually come.
This year brought us special souls who needed a little extra care, patience, and love.When we finally sat down and counted, the impact truly hit us. Through our fostering with The Ark of San Juan, we helped foster and rehome four mama cats and their sixteen babies, a total of twenty cats and kittens finding safe, loving homes in just one year. Each one carried a story, a challenge, and a reminder of why this work matters.Tootsie reminded us that special needs don’t mean limited,they mean resilient, expressive, and deeply connected.
And as of Sunday, our newest rescue, Trigger, joined the family. No front teeth, a big personality, and a spirit that immediately made himself at home. We’re wrapping up the year with one last rescue, while also saying goodbye to our final foster kitten this weekend. That goodbye is a little sweeter, because he isn’t going far, he’s officially staying in the family after my daughter adopted him. Watching that bond form has been one of the quiet gifts of this year.
Rescue work is a cycle of hellos and goodbyes, grief and gratitude, exhaustion and purpose. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. Here’s to the animals who passed through our lives this year, the ones who stayed, and the ones who taught us how love expands when you make room for it.
Only one more left. That is Evie a schnauzer who is 11 months, heart of gold, great protector from the birds and squirrels. We are picky where our pet friends go which is why she’s still with us. If you know someone looking for a walking campion, lap dog to bing watch Netflix’s, and let you know when those pesky squirrels are in your yard she is meant for you. Message me for details.
