San Diego Shambhala Meditation Center Community

San Diego Shambhala Meditation Center Community The San Diego Shambhala Meditation Center has been a cornerstone of contemplative practice in Southern California since its establishment in 1985.

Founded by students of the Tibetan Buddhist teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Shambhala is a global community rooted in the teachings of meditation, mindfulness, and the principle of basic goodness — the understanding that every human being has an innate nature of wisdom, strength, and compassion. Inspired by the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and further developed by generations of practitioners, the Shambhala path invites us to live courageously, to open our hearts, and to engage fully and authentically with the world. At its core, Shambhala offers a vision of creating enlightened society through personal and collective awakening — one moment, one breath, one action at a time.

March 1, 2026 11:30 AM — March 1, 2026 12:00 PM
Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change centers on three core commitments; to not cause harm, to take care of one another, and to embrace the world just as it is, even when it feels uncertain or painful. Together, these commitments invite us to meet life with compassion, responsibility, and courage, practicing kindness and openness in the midst of constant change.
Every Sunday | 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Following the Tea Break

Join us at the San Diego Shambhala Meditation Center, meeting at Full Circle Yoga (3910 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92105), for a short, welcoming practice and conversation.

All are welcome. No preparation needed and no cost to attend—donations are welcome.

Happy Shambhala Day 02-18-2026— Year of the Fire Horse 🐎🔥

From all of us at San Diego Shambhala, we wish you a joyful Shambhala Day.
The Fire Horse symbolizes courage, vitality, and forward movement.

May this year support our community in meeting one another — and the world — with dignity, bravery, and an open heart.

Come celebrate the energetic shift from the Year of the Wood Snake to the Year of the Fire Horse with our community. We will gather with members around the world to listen to a short Shambhala Day broadcast and celebrate our shared love of practice, teachings, and culture.

Date: Wednesday, February 18, 2026
Location: Dellefield Home (Address shared with RSVP)

Schedule
9:15 AM — Arrival
9:30–10:00 AM — Sitting meditation
10:00–10:30 AM — Shambhala Day broadcast
10:45–11:30 AM — Community meeting

This will be a breakfast potluck.
Please RSVP and let us know what breakfast dish you will bring (eggs, bagels, cream cheese, lox, fruit, sweets, etc.).

We look forward to being together in practice and celebration.

Warmly,
Pascale Dellefield

As we enter the Year of the Fire Horse, we meet an energy of courage, momentum, and uplifted heart. In the Shambhala tradition, the Horse carries windhorse (lungta)—the confidence and life force that rises when we align body, speech, and mind. Fire brings warmth, visibility, and intensity. Together, they ask us to step forward awake and alive.

This year, our San Diego Shambhala community receives the Fire Horse in the context of the Shambhala Global Assembly—a moment of collective listening, truth-telling, and reorientation across the global sangha. Before action comes attention. Before direction, relationship.

For San Diego Shambhala Meditation Center, the Fire Horse does not mean rushing ahead. It means moving together—with care, honesty, and steadiness—allowing clarity to arise from shared reflection.

Fire Horse energy asks:

Can we be brave without being harsh?

Can we lead without leaving anyone behind?

Can we let warmth guide us more than urgency?

As we gather to reflect on what emerged during the Global Assembly, we do so not to arrive at quick answers, but to cultivate windhorse grounded in heart—energy that lifts rather than scatters.

May this year bring courage tempered by kindness, momentum rooted in listening, and a community willing to stay present together as we take the next steps—one breath, one conversation, one practice at a time.

Love As Practice ✨

A student asked her teacher,
“How do I know if love will last?”

The teacher poured tea into a cup until it overflowed.
The student cried, “Stop! It’s spilling!”

The teacher smiled and said,
“Love does not last because we cling to it.
Love lasts when we keep showing up —
pouring again and again,
without trying to own the cup.”

💗 Love is not something we hold.
It is something we practice.

May this Valentine’s Day remind us
that devotion lives in presence, patience, and return. 🌸

💞 Love endures not by holding tight, but by returning again and again. 🌸

✨ A Zen Love Story for Valentine’s Day ✨

Once upon a time two brothers lived side by side on a farm. One was married with a family; the other lived alone.

Each night the single brother quietly carried a sack of grain from his own store to his married brother’s store, thinking, “He has a family; I have no one.”

At the same time, the married brother quietly carried a sack of grain to his brother’s store, thinking, “He has no one to care for him; I have more than I need.”

For many years the brothers were puzzled that their stores never ran low. One night they met in the dark and realized what they had been doing for each other. They dropped their sacks and embraced.

In that moment they understood: love is giving without keeping score, and abundance is born when hearts open to one another.

💞 A Zen Valentine: love grows when we give quietly and freely. 🌸
