Privilege is EVERYWHERE.
White supremacy is in EVERYTHING.

Imagine having never seen yourself depicted in this form. White people are viewed as the default in these illustrations.

The Tree of Life.

The placenta is frequently talked about during pregnancy, but do you know what it is?

It’s an organ!

The placenta develops when you become pregnant as a way to protect and nurture your developing baby. The placenta is attached to your uterus’ wall at either the top, side, front or back! It then leaves your body through the birthing canal following the birth of your baby. It’s actually essential that the entire placenta leaves your body following birth, otherwise you may experience bleeding or an infection. So, if you were wondering if you always have a placenta your whole life, the answer is you don’t! It only exists during pregnancy.

What is the purpose of the placenta?

The mother’s placenta is connected to her baby through the umbilical cord. Through this connection, the placenta is able to filter and deliver important nutrients to the developing baby, including oxygen. The placenta also keeps your baby’s body safe and healthy by removing waste products from your baby’s blood. Amazingly, the placenta enables the support, nourishment, and protection of the baby, all without the mother’s and baby’s blood mixing, preventing infections in the baby.

When your client has been in labor for 42 hours and counting, but hospital COVID protocol doesn’t allow you to leave and come back….. ya hide in a “closed” lobby somewhere on another floor of the hospital and lay down to attempt to rest 💤

The placenta is a unique organ of pregnancy that nourishes your baby. Typically, it attaches to the top or side of the uterus.

In a vaginal delivery, after a woman has her baby, the uterus will continue to contract. These contractions will move the placenta forward for delivery. They aren’t usually as strong as labor contractions. Usually, placenta delivery is quick, within about five minutes after having your baby. However, it can take longer for some women.

The baby is attached to the placenta via the umbilical cord. After your baby is delivered, the placenta follows.

Delivery of the placenta is also known as the third stage of labor. Delivery of the entire placenta is vital to a woman’s health after giving birth. Retained placenta can cause bleeding and other unwanted side effects.

For this reason, a doctor will examine the placenta after delivery to ensure that it is intact.

Often, after you deliver your baby, you’re very focused on seeing them for the first time and may not even notice the delivery of the placenta.

From easing nausea to promoting contractions and calming your nerves, essential oils can help labor in so many ways. Aromatherapy is a traditional and historical practice of using essential oils from plants in order to enhance well-being. Aromatherapy could be used during labor to help manage pain, anxiety or to help someone sleep. Anxiety, fear and tension are linked to someone’s pain perception. So, often, how much pain you perceive is related to how much anxiety you feel. The purpose of using aromatherapy during labor would be to decrease pain and manage anxiety and also to create a greater satisfaction with the childbirth experience. NOTE: There have been no studies or case reports published in research that have found any harm from using essential oils during labor.

— 15 hours from waters breaking to joining us earth side! Happy Birthday little one! It’s long and exhausting work, but being a is a labor of love 💜 I feel incredibly honored to be invited into the very intimate space that is labor and delivery ( &D) and bearing witness to the transformative changes the new parents experience. It moves me. It heals me. It inspires me.

Momma decided to have an once labor really kicked in. One of the many tools I like to use is called a .

You can use a traditional birthing ball on the floor to bounce on or hunch over during labor. For those who give birth in bed — say, due to having an epidural, being tired, or having a personal preference — there are similar benefits with a peanut ball.

While resting in bed, lying on your side, sitting or semi-sitting the peanut ball can be placed in between your legs, or under one leg. This gives your pelvis optimal positioning by keeping your legs open. This is helpful when laboring with an epidural in your hospital bed. (If you have an epidural and are limited in how much you can move your body – your partner, doula or nurse can be a great helper to get you situated in one of these positions.) The peanut ball is even helpful for those women who are just resting and taking a break in bed during labor without an epidural.

The peanut ball used in the above mentioned ways helps to widen the pelvic outlet. Widening the pelvic outlet is one way to support the natural progress of labor. Using position changes to widen the pelvic outlet can be beneficial.

If you are not laboring with an epidural, using a larger peanut ball on the floor you can straddle and sit on the ball, swaying back and forth.
🔴Research provides evidence that laboring women with an epidural who use a peanut ball, compared to women who did not, had significantly shorter lengths of labor and a higher likelihood of spontaneous vaginal birth. It is a useful intervention to help labor progress and support vaginal birth with or without an epidural.

Having the opportunity to witness the transformation into parenthood as I am blessed to witness the moment a new human enters the world earth side is a gift and brings me such joy. However, one of the best and most rewarding parts about my calling is the lasting bonds, friendships and relationships I am so honored to form with my clients and their families. A September 2020 babe reunion moment captured the unbridled joy in our faces 💜
