My 2-year-old boy is not yet talking or imitating sounds/words. He doesn't seem to care to interact with kids his age or follow simple commands. Should I wait and give him some time to catch up? When to get help and what are some early signs of speech-language delay?

We all look forward to a child’s first words. But did you know that children must first develop prelinguistic skills before they can begin to speak? Taking turns is an important skill to develop to hold conversations.

Sing simple songs with your child, especially ones with actions, like “Row Row Row your Boat”, and build in opportunities for him to participate. This is a fun way for him to learn to take his turn in an interaction, as well as to learn new words.
